Trojan coming up from Yahoo USA

[link to this post]

OK - this is not for me but a friend - and he's wondering if anyone else has come across this .

Facts

1) he uses Logmein to check his Mother's computer - she is in the USA and uses Yahoo for e-mail and the home page, OS is XP - using Avast and some malware stuff [ don't know what :( ] Avast is up to date , likewise XP.

2) His computer [ in the UK ] is Ubuntu - using Avast and up to date too

3) USA computer is telling them that there is a Trojan detected - no evidence found BUT Yahoo in the UK is clear of this Trojan [ he checked ]. After a bit of 'faffing about ' he managed to get to Yahoo USA and found to his horror he got the Trojan warning too .

I do have a screen shot he sent me - but I'm not sure [ Mac User ] how to get it on here - and the warning is very very clear .

Has anyone heard anything about this ? Can it be cleared from this end ?

The problem is that her e-mail is through Yahoo - so till this is sorted she is rather concerned . Her computer has been scanned today and is clean.

You could try uploading screenshot to somewhere like Photobucket or Flickr - and putting link in here

The warning my be because Avast is detecting something on the Yahoo page (or one of the adverts) - it may even be a spoof advert to try scaring people into installing something

Seems to be a known false positive http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=52692.msg4463...

It may be a False Positive, as discussed on the Avast forum:

Im sure it is a false positive or extreme over-sensitivity if they are not one and the same. I had a spate of Avast alerts for the Trojan you mention on 27 December. They were initiated by two sites: a Telegraph blog and a property search website. Earlier today, Avast alerted me to signs of JS:Illredir-B [Trj] while visiting the site of a Gloucestershire school. Avast does seem to pick up more JS menaces than most AV software.
