I take it that reply from Smith Dyer was some kind of spam! : )
Anyway, I wanted to update all the lovely people who helped me...I ended up getting a new license key for nothing, after installing the latest version of Kaspersky - it wouldn't accept my license key so they kindly sent me another. It's working really well - no issues, occasionally a little slow when it is updating itself but it's really so much better than before.
Thanks so much for all your help and advice.

A bit late but if your o/s has outlook express shipped with it, then i think it will be windows xp/xp pro or media center ,(unless you also have Microsoft office ) as windows vista came with windows mail
a newer version of OE, and win7 doesn't have any e-mail client shipped with it,Even though some files relating to one are within the windows folders, the user has to download and install one of the own choice, they also did the same thing with the browser in certain countries

You're right - it's xp. Thankyou - I should probably write down these things in big red pen ON the hard drive so I don't forget what I am running!

Looks like it was - Link

Click/open > Start (bottom left of screen)

Click/open > Control Panel

Click/open > System

You will see a small window called System Properties with various named tabs at the top, the tab you will/should be looking at is named General and contains various bits of information about your System and possibly the PC manufacturer etc. etc.
