Microsoft Security Essentials

Knowing nothing about it, which is why I ask the question, would you entrust a new laptop to just this one programme?

If you'd prefer a free "internet security" package, try Comodo IS.

I think it comes automatically with Windows 7 - Not absolutely sure as I haven't progressed to 7 yet (don't have any reason to), but I think that's the case.

I downloaded and use Security Essentials on three laptops and two desktops (mixture of XP and Vista) and so far it's been great. Small footprint, updates itself with no 'splash' screens etc. - Just does what it says on the tin............

Came with my Windows 7 Home Premium,. Although not installed it is on the new PC

Was using bit defender 2010 on my main pc licence ran out and have been running this ever since, no problems to report, successfully found any virus's lurking and seems to run quietly in the background too. Windows 7 64bit.

For friends PC's whereas I used to install AVG or Avast, have been putting this on, a lot easier and unlike AVG it doesn't ask you to uninstall and reinstall the latest version every year.

There are three main downloads for this,

XP 32 bit
vista/windows 7 32bit
vista/windows 7 64bit.

That's the reason I'm asking. An elderly friend, needs as much automated security as possible.
