Hi can anyone recommend a good introductory pc - network security book, with info on viruses, malware etc.

It really depends what level you are going at...

For an absolute novice then I'm not sure... The danger is when things are over simplified to the point where they aren't accurate or cause paranoia.

For someone good at computers but wants an introduction to security, then the CompTIA Security+ certification and associated materials is pretty good. As well as the A+ and Network+ having said that.
