SpeedTouch 546 v6 ADSL2+ Firewall question

Hi all

I am trying to apply an address range to the firewall tool on the above router.

So, I went to the toolbox, select firewall, created a custom setting based on 'disabled'. Next I edited the new custom setting and entered a rule as follows just for testing:

Rule name: test
enabled rule
source interface: was set to any
source address: I selected User-Defined and put in a single IP address
destination interface: was set to any
destination address: any
service: tested on any and smtp
action: deny

This worked.

My question is how can I or how do I write/enter an IP address range?

So, if I wanted to allow or deny for example 123.321.5.10 to 123.321.5.30 how can I do that, if it can be done that is? I have tried 123.321.5.10-123.321.5.30 this but the range I used was to many characters and it wouldn't allow the full range.

Just a guess, but could the range require CIDR notation?

Hi camieabz,

Tried that and it doesn't like it. It says:

Validation failed for (User-defined)
This is not a valid IP address, the valid format is n.n.n.n (with 0<=n<=255)

Yet in the help document that you can select it clearly says:
"Or you can type a User-defined IP address (range)."

I think the format is like this: xxx.xxx.[xxx-xxx].*

So in the example I gave in my original post: 123.321.5.10 - 123.321.5.30
would it look like this: 123.321.[5-30].* ?

I'm not to good on the syntax of things, I have to read many times over just to work out things like filter operators!

Sorry for the delay replying, kind of busy couple of days.

I tried your suggestion and that doesn't work either. Single address's are fine but a range (as it suggests can be done in the help file but with no syntax example) still eludes me.
