Help for a PC users please

got a mate in Ireland who's not terribly computer savvy [ like me ;) ] and he has found a problem or two

Computer is Acer Aspire 5750 Pentium core i-5 processor. I've no idea about RAM on the machine

Got this from him this morning

It's been slowing up recently in downloading webpages. I thought there might be a bug in ti. It already has an anti-virus programmes in it. However I downloaded the free AVG programme last night and its working a treat after it discovered 70 files that were contaminated and are now quarantined

I don't know what he was using before - the machine is about 1 year old .

I suggested that if AVG had found some nasties it might be as well to check for things like Malware and Keystroke loggers .

I shouldn't have done that - he's now asked how he does that - and being a MacHead I've no idea as to what he should be running.

Suggestions of things for him to use, would be very gratefully received. Remember he's no Techie Genius .

OH I've already told him that he must not try and run 2 Antivirus Progs at the same time

Marlwarebytes is a free and good program to use for Marlware, Spyware etc. and easy to use.

There are others such as Adaware, Spybot Search and Destroy etc. they all do more or less the same, but I would recommend Malwarebytes for its simplicity and can be installed in addition to anti-virus software.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is top of the list now, previously it was SUPERAntiSpyware which is also worth considering as well.

Another vote for MalwareBytes, helped when I had to clean a neighbours computer.

I'd follow up with what AV software are they using as the next question. Though none of them are full proof and learning to be careful on what you click/allow is a good defence.

Perhaps point them towards to Chrome, which can help avoid the common Internet Explorer exploits
