antivirus security in windows 8

[link to this post]

I upgraded from windows 7 to win 8. Previously I had Microsoft security essentials. However I cannot find the Microsoft security essentials in win 8. Has the name changed, if so what is it called? If I want to carry out an antivirus check how can I do it?

It is called Windows Defender. Type "Windows Defender" into the start screen.

You have to download MSE from Microsoft, It will then replace Defender

The version of Windows Defender that is supplied with Windows 8 now has MSE integrated (as stated by Pipexer and Yarwell).

The only difference I have found is that you cannot set your own automatic scan frequency. It does it on its own (daily) schedule.

You've made a critical misassumption that the product in one version of Windows is the same in the next version of Windows.
