Sky BB and Line Rental Question???

[link to this post]

I've just initiated a migration from PlusNet to Sky.

My quick question is with regards to line rental....I previously paid PlusNet 11 a month for line rental....will Sky automatically pick up the tab for that....or will I have to transfer....and do I have to have SKY line rental as opposed to BT?

Thanks

You need a BT phone line.

Ya, boo, sucks - and words to that effect!

I am confused too.

Sky has actually accepted the order? Because you would need a BT line for that.

If you mean that you just asked for a MAC from PlusNet get ready to be without broadband for a while at least until you get a BT line in.

Cheers.

Sky would not accepts a MAC address from Plusnet from me, because Plusnet are on teh LLU Migration trial and Sky are not. That meant that I had to disconnect my ADSL service with Plusnet before I could sign up to Sky.

Sky accepted the MAC code with no problems. I've paid Plusnet for my line for about 6 months now...transferred from BT...

...so you reckon this is going to cause a problem? I've logged a ticket with Plusnet so I'll see what they say!

I forgot, it depends on your current ADSL service. There are 2 types, I think they are standard ADSL and MAX ADSL(which uses the LLU).

I was on MAX ADSL (which is the newer of the 2 types) and because Sky were not on teh LLU migration trial, Plusnet said the MAC address would not be transferrable, so I had to disconnect from Plusnet before I could order from Sky.

Simply disconnecting from Plusnet took 3 weeks (lots of e-mails, telephone calls and postings in their public forum grr).

If you are on the standard ADSL service (speeds of up to 2MB I think) then you should be able to migrate using a MAC address supplied by Plusnet with little/no loss of service.

Thanks Paul...fingers crossed.

Still not entirely sure who I'm gonna be paying my line rental to though!

MaxADSL does not use LLU - it is a completely different product. MaxADSL is 'owned' by BT and LLU is not.

Plus's "up to 8MB" package can be provided either by maxADSL (which was the case with me) or by LLU (if your exchange had Tiscali LLU installed).

If Plus put you on LLU then you can not switch back to Sky's maxADSL package [ Connect ] without a "cease" being first put on your line. If you're on Plus's maxADSL package then you can switch to any Sky package without the "cease".
