Erratic connection speeds in first week.. Normal?

Have had Sky BB Max package since the 22nd and I'm pretty happy so far.
I've had my connection speeds go up and down on a daily basis, I heard that there is a 10 day period where this will happen, is this the case.

I normally sync between 5Mbps and 9Mbps, fastest download test I did was around the 7Mbps mark.
My upload also varies as well.

I also seem to get a lag sometimes when browsing where it all just stops for a few seconds (Maybe up to 20) and then bursts info life again.

Any advice would be great.

Sounds like classic rate adaption coping with noise issues

I get that as well; but in my case it's Internet Explorer 7 stopping for the odd 15 seconds before carrying on (taking my whole computer with it for a while)...

Before IE7 though (on IE6 that is) - I did have a similar issue when every now and then the connection just used to freeze, and then suddenly start up again... It did sort itself out though after a couple of weeks, could be a new connection thing!

It's sounds almost the same.

I have installed IE7, but currently do not use it (Firefox is my preferred browser). Maybe that does have something to do with it.
Oh well roll on a few more days and see how it goes.

My noise does hover around the 6 to 9 mark, so that might be the issue.

I'm on the mid package and connected at 6649 downstream... My noise is rougfhly the same as yours, between 6 and 9 and fluctuates a fair bit - but for me this has not been an issue. the connection freezes were only around for the first couple of weeks of my connection then all fine - even with the same noise levels - The noise margins seems fine and within normal range from what i have read from other posts on this forum...
