Telewest to Sky

[link to this post]

I have recently dropped from Telewest 10mg to the 2 mg service as my son has gone to NZ so no more gaming. No complaints about the service but have just got mail tellling me my local exchange is now LLU for sky broadband. I am 880 mtrs from the exchange so instead of 18.00 pm for 2mg can get "up to" 16mg fo 10.00. Is the experience worth it. I have been with cable for a long long time so am a virgin in the ways of ADSL.

From the saving point of view definitely, however there is no documented case of it happening to anyone else in the same boat yet.

As for what you can get you will get a lot higher than you have now and I would assume a better quality connection, as there is no shaping on MAX

Good luck, give them a call and ask, but I think they will do it as and when they feel like it, as they would make mor emoney having you on Connect and signing someone up on Max instead of you (ie 2 connections at the same time) rather than have you take the 10.00 slot at the moment.

I would assume they are allowing those who can receive the LLU connection first, then those on Connect second. I could be wrong though.

If you are just getting Broadband from telewest, then a move to the Sky MAX package would be something worth looking into if your exchange is llu enabled for Sky BB. I'm assuming you already pay for Sky TV, bundling BB onto your Sky account makes sense in terms of saving money.

You should also get good speeds from your exchange at 880 meters, although there are many more factors to takes into account for a true comparison of speed performance.

I have a cousin who moved from cable internet to SkyBB; as he had already served his minimum contract with his cable company, he could leave cable at any time, so he just placed an order to Sky BB for the Max package, and when everything was up and running on Sky BB, he contacted his cable network and cancelled his BB account with them. As the BB on cable and on ADSL come from different lines, they have nothing to do with each other so can be treated totally seperately.

I'd ask Telewest to price match Sky first... worth a shot anyway.

Do you have a BT phone line? if not is there a line in your house? When you add the cost of the line it may work out cheaper to stay on cable, as the phone line is almost free if you have other telewest services.

You cant just get Sky BB, you need to be a Sky customer first.

Or order them both at the same time and it will still only equal 24.99 a month
