Connected....but.....

[link to this post]

Just this minute got Connected to the Max package, all gone reasonably well so far, today was my activation date so a point to Sky and BT for that!.

However I am synching at 8.0Mbps, I expected a little more, nearer to the 10Mbps mark.

I have posts where people say that speed has gradually increased over the first few days of connection, I have rebooted my router a few times already and always 8.0Mbps. Is this the best I can expect.

I am 1.19km from the exchange

Line Attenuation - Upstream = 40dB, Downstream = 26.0dB
Noise Margin - Upstream = 9.6dB, Upstream = 14.0dB

Thanks

Can you post your sync speeds too? It may be that you've been put on the wrong package...

Bulldog Unlimited Plus
Best Speedtest
Average Sync 9000/1000Kbps, 38.5dB Attenuation

Sky Broadband Max
Average Sync 9000/764Kbps, 44.5dB Attenuation

Also, could you double check the line stats you posted:

-----
Line Attenuation - Upstream = 40dB, Downstream = 26.0dB
Noise Margin - Upstream = 9.6dB, Upstream = 14.0dB
-----

These seem a bit odd as you seemed to post both noise margins as upstream and I think you have the attentuations marked inversely. From all the line stats that I have seen posted, downstream attenu. is always higher than upstream and downstream noise margin is always lower than upstream.

Did you mean:

-----
Line Attenuation - Downstream= 40dB, Upstream= 26.0dB
Noise Margin - Downstream= 9.6dB, Upstream = 14.0dB
-----

???

If your original line stats posting is correct, then your line should support more than 8 megs, although by experience, I think you may have the upstream and downstream stats mixed up - correct me if I'm wrong.

Fred.

Just had a look on DSL Zone UK (http://www.dslzoneuk.net/maxspeed2.php) and they say...

Based on the attenuation you entered, we estimate that your line can support around 12 - 16 Mbps on ADSL2+.

YES....I did indeed mean what you have corrected my post too, I was in a rush.

So what do I do, my download speed shows at 8096Kbps, upload 416Kbps.

Do you think I should get better than this??, I must admit I was hoping for a minimum of 12Mbps.

I would have thought it be better than that for a 40dB downstream... Just for the sake of testing, have you tried pluging the router directly into the master socket, and even the test socket (I could never find the test socket, does one have to open the BT box to get to it?).

I don't have experience with adsl2+ so I might have too high expectations for it's performance!

Test the router at the master BT socket and see what you get as extensions and extra wiring has been known to make a difference.

Edit: corrected some typos! sorry!

Hmmm, 40dB should give about 10000Kbps+ on a good line. I'd say check the connection through the master socket, or the test socket within the master. My 44.5dB line gives 9200 to 10000Kbps without issue.

Thanks Guys.

The Router is plugged into the master BT socket, I had the house wired so that this was where I wanted it.

Just seems atrange to me how I go no fluctuation, always connect at 8096Kbps, no lower, no higher.

Can I expect this to improve slightly over the supposed 10 day learning period??
