New To Sky MAx am i on ADSL 1 >?

[link to this post]

Hi, I have just been connected to sky max 16mbs but am only recieving 8mbs. My attenuation and snr look good to go higher but i wanted some second opinions. My line stats are as follows.

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8096 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 28.0 db 18.5 db
Noise Margin 15.5 db 13.0 db

To me these look good to go higher, Also i cannot see anything in the router to say gmtd or whatever it is to say if i am on adsl1 or the other.

Should i ring sky and ask to be put on the higher adsl2 ?

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I am in the same situation and currently have a ticket open to change me to ADSL2. I have a lower attenuation than you but am connected at 8160.

According to this site you should be able to get the full 16Meg:

thanks for that, I think i will raise a ticket also.

Also on another note, My netgear wont now do WEP anymore it does not save the settings, And i cannot get my laptops to work on the installed WPA for some reason the code they game me does not work when i enter it into my laptops. Anyone had this problem before ? I would like to use WEP but the router just resets it to WPA,

Surely by default WPA should be your setting as it is much better encryption than WEP. I would address the WPA avenue and leave WEP out of the equation my router was set to WPA by default and our laptop works fine on WPA.

Well, This is wierd as i set it wep and got the netwprk key generated by it and entered this in the WEP settings on my laptops and it worked even though when i log onto the sky router it says im using WPA with the network key. Very wierd indeed and also it does not help that we have two identical windows xp versions and the wireless options are differnet in each one, but i supose its the wirless software is different. Anyway things are working now with my pc and 2 laptops running great.

Well i have spoke to sky BB and they say the maximum my line can handle is 8meg i queried this only to be told i could downgrade to the mid package with a usage cap so i said no and then got passed to another dept to be told the same thing and the info they have is from BT so i would have to call them to get better speeds????

Here are my line stats as of NOW 22.04pm >

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8096 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 28.0 db 18.5 db
Noise Margin 13.1 db 13.0 db

Now i have read alot of forums and these look quite good to me seen as though i am around 1.3km from the exchange but does anyone else have any ideas as to why i am capped at adsl1 when adsl2+ has not even been tried on my line yet? .People on alot worse lines have the same speed as myself.

Any help would be gratefull.
