Can I use my current router or do I have to use...

....the one that Sky send you. I'm perfectly happy with my router and I'd rather manually configue my connection. Are you allowed to do this or is something preconfigured in the router that locks off connection details?

I was thinking of sticking the Sky router on ebay....

Your SKY userid and password is "hard coded" into your SKY router. There are ways documented on various web sites on how to extract that information from the router. From what I have read SKY will not tell you what your userid and password is

Once you have the information I presume you can use it in your existing router.

I have no idea what would happen though if you sell the SKY router and then have problems with the line. I wonder if perhaps SKY might want to connect to your router in some way. A bit hard if you have sold it

It's an interesting point. I'll just fit it as expected and see how I get on. Hopefully the Netgear is better than my Safecom (which I'm very happy with)
