Re: Router does not resync when SNR drops

Yes but that will limit the speed, won't it?

Only in relation to the current SNR, so if I rebooted in the day I might get a faster speed that would become unstable as the SNR drops in the evening... Which is what happened.

That is why I am sure the router should automatically re-sync.

"I cheated, I used the one in the custom_commands_sample in the config.xml "

Good idea I put in 4 db as a custom command rather than the 7.5 db he used as I always get a db above target I also delayed the url checks to 1 min seems to work ok the whole process takes 4 min start to finish so I am sure I would notice it but you do get a sound file as well LOL

Next to figure out how to deal with a duel booting PC and a laptop all wanting to run it ?

Still I am sure the router should sync down automatically, and up if SRA was enabled...

My SNR dropped to 7.4 db last night, now 8.6 db meaning I could maybe go a little higher with the sync rate but really I suppose 14.5 mbit is quite fast enough and should remain stable now and also allows for any exceptional drops in SNR in the evening.

Shame SRA is not used and I could have 15 mbit in the day and 14.5 mbit in the evening.

I suppose, assuming Sky don't set a profile for the line, this system is best as if I needed faster I could just reboot during the day. Although if they don't set profiles surely a lot of people will have unstable connections in the evening as the SNR drops?

Do you mean they do assign a stable rate?

Others have said they don't, if so how is it worked out especially as the router does not automatically re-sync although I assume errors are logged on the DSLAM.

When my line was switched to ADSL2+ manually (another story) the man on the phone asked me to do a high bandwidth download to test stablilty at the original sync of 15300 (ish) and he said it was perfect!

Come that evening the SNR dropped around 1 db to 6.6 db and the connection stalled.

Now foreced a lower sync using the 3rd party target SNR tweaker, and I get 7.4. to 8.6 SNR so stable at a slightly lower sync rate 15300 vs 14500.

Right, I've absorbed what you've been saying about selecting the sync speed, and this is the answer to the problem. We need SRA to work, which would hopefully solve the problem of missing out on extra speed during the day.

1. Would it? - Would SRA increase the speed if the SNR is high enough?
2. Does it work? - I disabled it on my router due to talk of instability
3. Why doesn't it work? - who knows?

I believe is has to be turned on at the DSLAM and Router, I have read around trying to find information and I read talk of it not working?

In theory when SRA is enabled the sync speed will dynamically change up and down with varying line conditions, so that you always have the best throughput and it does this without having to re-sync so no down time.

If this has, in fact, not worked in the past it is surely likely to firmware issues.

ISTR talk of it working on UKOnline - Easynet's residential ISP before Sky. I wonder if tier-3 would know? I'd ring them, but they would probably cap me to 512k...

Hmmm - linky

That is how I feel about contacting Sky also, in theory I'd like my line capped around 14500 so whenever I might need to reboot I know the sync will be stable 24/7, or of course enable SRA!

But from my past experience and reading here I fear what might happen to my connection, last time when I was incorrectly on ADSL1 at 8090 sync rate, I was dropped to 7300 (ish) rather than being moved to ADSL2+. Luckily after being on TV and complaining several times (as you know) escalations called me back and confirmed someone capped the ADSL1 service, he moved me to ADSL2+ there and then!

The person in escalations seemed knowledgeable but knew nothing about SRA when I asked, he thought I meant dynamic throughput limiting when the exchange was busy, as he refereed incorrectly to that as SRA.
