...whilst waiting for my new sky connection (i'm due to go live today), or do i need to have everything switched off (and even unplugged from the phone socket)?

just got in from work and tested it. works perfectly on ethernet. haven't set it up for wireless yet.

down: 3456k (over three times faster than i was getting on Orange!)
up: 416k

i'm not even using the sky supplied power adaptor or cables. i checked the voltage and current settings on the router - same as for my linksys one so i just plugged that adaptor into the back - saved me pulling out the tv unit from the wall!

is it worth installing the sky supplied software?

If you mean the CD, no - pointless exercise but glad you got the connection okay.

If you don't have antivirus, the Sky CD has Mcafee antivirus. Otherwise ignore it.

Just helped my mate swap from Orange 1meg to Sky Connect 8meg (small town, no LLU), and he's really pleased.
