Yes you can, but it breaks the terms and conditions of the service.

See this: http://dg834gt.mognuts.com/NetgearRouterUtility.html

If you're going to Sky MAX, then your Belkin will need to support ADSL2+ to get the most out of your line. (Depending on your attenuation and snr margin stats).

The "Netgear utillity" webpage allows you to read out the username and password that are programmed into the Sky router. The software in the Sky router is heavily customised and hides the username/password information.

You need to connect once with the Sky router, then your account is live, and you can then try another router. You may find the Sky router gives you a faster or more stable connection.

Its unlikely the condition will be enforced, but you may be asked to connect it if you need helpdesk support.

My Sky Router is about 1 Meg faster than my Belkin Router!

Not sure what model the Belkin is .... less than 9 months old though.

No problems with the Sky Router so far.... with it's upright stand it even looks better than the Belkin and handles VPN (Securemote) without any fuss.

:-)

my belkin router is about a year and a half old i believe

so that probaly means that i will need a new router apart from the sky one
would it just be cheaper to get a netgear card/dongle to attach to my laptop instead

Sky GIVE you a free router, you don't need to buy one.
