Sky Review - Are they a good ISP?

[link to this post]

Hi guys

Im in the process of moving house, I have had ADSL since 2003 with mixed results! To be honest with you all Im actually sick and tired of all the cr*p I've put up with using various ISP's. I want an ISP that will allow me online gaming, browsing and well just a sodding decent connection for my internet needs (pinging jolt.co.uk at around 25ms would be perfect).

I've seen the recent advertisement of SKY 26, is this a good deal or what? Can you guys post your review on sky, what are they like, are they as bad as Talk Talk or are they actually a decent ISP? I dont want to be tied up in a 12month contract if its as bad as some ISP's out there.

Thanks a lot guys

From personal experience my connection is solid and fast, but I am very close to the exchange - pings are 50+ so probably that counts Sky out for you straight away, and tech support is rubbish.

when it works, it works well. I have been out for the first time ni about 5 months, since last friday (3.5 days ago). Tech support is appalling - call centres in the Philipines which means no local knowlegde/ability to transfer you to anyone who knows whats going on etc.
I would sign up and pray you don't have much in the way of technical issues.

I am in the process of migration and as said above.. I just hope I don't have tech issues, as from what I have read around the net.. Sky are just appauling.. My move was based purely on cost...hope I aint cutting my nose to spite my face..;0)

My fingers are crossed..

btw, just as another option apart from Sky MAAF are really really good in my book, was with them 2 years + and (for me anyway..and many others..) faultless! But obviously a price difference..

Good luck!

madasafish to Sky, lets see how it goes!!

I've been with them just over a week now.

Migration went well - live on the day they told me it would be.
Router arrived a couple of days prior to activation.
Speeds have been great - SkyMax - getting approx 13200 speeds on ADSL2, although this did need a little tweaking using TCP Optimizer - other than that, no problems.

As others have said - I think when it goes well - it goes really well.

Cheers,

Tony

Sky are pretty decent, not everything goes perfect but as they about the fastest growing ISP ever there will be problems.

Pings are a bit high but they dont feel it (I ping round 50/60 most UK servers)

Hi Antigod,

In the short time (2 weeks) that I've been with Sky I've been quite impressed. Speeds are steady and the service is solid - and considering my line has interleaving enabled, the pings are excellent.

The only gripe I have is the heavy traffic management placed on various P2P protocols, such as eD2k & BitTorrent - however I'm of the understanding that this is only the case with the 'Sky Connect' package, and isn't an issue on the LLU enabled (Base, Mid & Max) packages.

If you can put up with a bit of a wait to recieve your router, then definitly go for it.

Regards,
Justin
