Sky Mid LLU vs Sky Connect (BT Max)

[link to this post]

How does Sky's Mid LLU operate in comparison to BT's Max DSL (which Sky use for the Connect package)?

I'm able to migrate to Sky's 5 Connect deal (so my exchange is probably due to be un-bundled at or before August) but wanted to know how Sky's LLU works vs BT Max DSL before I consider migrating.

I know Max goes up in steps for Sync and Throughput but is this the same for Sky's Mid LLU package? Is it the same technology (in theory) behind the two DSL services?

My Speedtouch 780wl (6.2.16.3 firmware) stat's as of this moment:

Hi Yaz,
Yes, they're practically identical services, bar the sync rate. My understanding is that if your exchange is on 5 Connect, you can expect it to go LLU within 3 months.

Regards,
Justin

I think your biggest issue Yaz will be the way Connect is managed; according to user's Connect is heavily managed where as Base, Mid and Max appear to be managed free.

I do hope your exchange is unbundled as planned as I don't feel Connect is a viable long term solution of much value - I'm on Mid and get solid and fast speeds at all times so fingers crossed for you.

I'm currently holding off on moving to Sky until I'm able to confirm that the exchange has been un-bundled. I'd much rather go through a single DSL switch than multiple switches (from fixed to MAX then to LLU) as I feel there's more chances for things to go wrong if they have to keep switching my line.

It shouldn't be too long until Sky get round to my exchange (fingers crossed). I will have to keep trying the Sky website.

When you say "bar the sync rate" do you mean that the LLU service doesn't have the same "steps" of Sync rate and IP Profile as BT MAX has?

My own guess for the exchange to be un-bundled is to be at or before August as I was offered the 5 Connect deal from the moment it was available (mid January).

Hi Yaz,

Sorry i thought you were asking what was the difference between the 8Mb LLU & the 16Mb LLU Sky packages!

In regards to the sync rates and subsequent data rates, those used on BT Wholesale products such as Sky Connect are listed at the bottom of this (http://www.dslzoneuk.net/adslmax_explained.php) page.

I have no idea what they are for Sky's LLU services, as it's set by Easynet and i'm not even sure if that info is published.

Regards,
Justin

No problem Justin, thanks for taking the time to reply.

I guess I will only be able to find out the difference if I were to be connected with BT MAX and then transfered to LLU (something I would rather avoid).

Oh well, time to sit back and wait, can't be too long.
