Hi,
my first post as a Sky user! My broadband was delivered bang on time, and it seems to be great! I picked the 10 unlimited option and here are my router stats:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2784 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 56.0 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 7.7 db 11.0 db
Cos my upstream is 768k I presume I am on ADSL2+ yes? Is there any other way of checking I am on ADSL2+?

you can get that upload speed on adsl1
Downstream 6595 Kbps (824.4 KB/sec) 7122 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 666 Kbps (83.3 KB/sec) 719 Kbps (inc. overheads)

|
|
When I was on ADSL1 I got 768 Kbps upload - when I changed to ADSL2+ I got 764 Kbps
With your figures you are not going to see much improvement on ADSL2+
There is a way to see your router stats at a lower level which will show you whether you are on ADSL2+ or not but I cannot remeber how to do it on the Netgear router. On my Belkin my connection type changed from G.dmt to ADSL2+

I'm on ADSL2+ and get 768 - so it might be localised differences in the way the dslams are setup. I'm afraid I don't know what the Netgear commands are either

I have just connected up my old speedtouch 585 v6. It shows my connection as: "Modulation: G.992.1 annex A" - which is plain adsl1 I believe. How do I get changed to 992.5, adsl2+?

If you ring tier-3 they can change it. But you won't see any improvement with that attenuation

You call Sky and tell them, but it might be difficult to get them to change you over. Also judging by your line stats, you may not benefit much if at all...

As user movie pointed out to me
You're in the 10-day training period. Wait for 10 days.

I rang Sky today, to try get get switched from ADSL1 to ADSL2+. The guy I spoke to seemed to get scared when I started talking about getting my DSLAM profile changed... he said he would pass it straight on to Level 3 ;-) Only trouble is it will take 3-5 days for them to call me back! Any way I got a job number to give me some hope! Ticket 246359, counting the hours........ zzzzzz

I speak from experience - moving to ADSL2+ will gain you nothing

I have been fiddling with my SpeedTouch 585, and I have also removed my phone extensions ring wire (IDC connector 5 at the NTE5) - now I have managed to sync stabily at: 768 / 4.640 !!! I think I may stop fiddling/hassling Sky and leave things alone now ;-)
