Thinking of changing from Plusnet to Sky - a few ?

[link to this post]

Thinking of changing to Sky Mid or Max, but I have a few questions first -

1. My speeds at the moment are between 1.3 & 1.5Mbps, will these remain the same or increase going onto LLU? - I'M ABOUT 4.4km from exchange

2. Do Sky have WEBMAIL (cannot seem to find it)?

3. Only been with Plusnet for 3 months, but getting fed up with 8GB a mth usage - Is 40 the only fee that I will have to pay?

1) Not sure. They should be roughly the same but Sky use interleaving by default which may reduce the sync slightly. However, sky don't use BTs BRAS system so you should get closer to the sync speed on actual downloads.

2) Yes. For new customers it is provided on the google mail platform (which should be better than the hit and miss email that sky have been offering).

3) 40 for what? Not sure what you're asking here?

Does that mean that it could be faster but show as slower in settings on router?

40 is a cancellation fee for not staying 12 months I think.

I have lots of trouble logging into the webmail, it normally times out whether I use IE7 or Opera. Once set up in Outlook or Opera it deals with the mails fine though. Just a shame that the webmail isn't too snappy at the moment. It might be that I am accessing the webmail via PlusNet, but it did work fine until this week.

You may be better asking about plusnet cancellation in the plusnet forum. However, I think that is probably all you will have to pay to plusnet to cancel (and of course the 30 days notice).

You will also pay sky to join (I think that is 30).

Are you on the new google mail or the old sky mail? I gave up with sky mail about 5 minutes after getting it but I'm not yet on the google platform to try that out.

Yes. But it all depends on how the sky configuration reacts with your line. I suspect you would see a slight improvement though.

Just tried again and the www.sky.com site seems to have gone darn, which is prolly half the problem

Makes me glad I pay for an external mail service these days. Can't be bothered with flaky isp mail.

With regards to point 1. I get around 100K more with LLU. It seems to work slightly different from the profiles you have with ADSL Max. I can sync my router in the morning at 7616k and get around 800K all day untill peak time. As the exchange gets buiser in the evening the noise on the line increases and this causes my bandwidth to "spike" a simple reboot of the router will sync it slightly lower where it will stay for days. Around 750K. this a good 100K better than on AOL

Ex AOL 672Kbps
Sky MAX G.DMT - 711Kbps
