SKY Broadband Issues

[link to this post]

Folks,

I signed up for sky broadband but they provided me with a faulty sky netgear router that will take 5 days to replace. I am now trying to use my d-link router but receiving "chap authentication error".

Tried confirming my username and password with sky tech helpdesk but they say my username is "sky" and password is "admin". Surely that is the username/password for me to actually connect to the router config screen? The helpdesk engineer didn't have a clue basically...

I have confirmed my username & password with SKY but I'm still receiving a "chap authentication" error on my router log. They won't support me because I don't have the netgear router currently.

Can any of you tell me what format the username has to be inside the router config page? for example, would mine be [email protected] or just gring0?

Have any of you managed to get online without the sky netgear router?

Cheers!

Your user and password are embedded into your router and nowhere else, so no-one knows what they are. You should have extracted them from the router before sending it off. You can use them in another router and it would work, but you need to know what they are.

I still have the router in my possession but the power light doesn't come on at any stage (but the wirless light and ethernet port light both come on!?!?)

Hopefully i'll be able to browse to the router and find it.

Thanks for your help!

Take a look in the Sky User Forums

There's a link to a program in there which will dump a backup of your router settings to a file called netgear.cfg

This is a text file, so opening that will reveal your username and password.
