Just ordered 16Mb Max but a few questions !!!!

I'm currently with nildram, good service but overpriced now, and faster ISP's.
My line stats are very good and only about 1Km from exchange as crow flys.
Exchange is LLU

When guy told me i'd get 8Mb, but i expect to get more. When pressed he told me 9.7 guarenteed !!! How can he know this?
Sky's website also tells me 8Mb, but all other website adsl2 speed predictions tell me between 12-16Mb.

I'm now worried i'll be placed on adsl1 and not adsl2.

Any info on how to make sure i get on adsl2 and the fastest possible connection?

Your Attenuation is good which would suggest 16Mb BUT that Margin (SNR) is terrible, are you connected via an extension? if so connect to the main socket and test again because if that margin isn't cleaned up you may get LESS than 8Mb Ideally you want a Margin (SNR) of around 15ish (this will drop to around 7dB when activated to ADSL2+) for a solid 16Mb

how can i increase it ?
just plugged router direct into master and get the same reading.

Would replacing the master socket help? as it's a bit knackered.

Is it an NTE5 socket? if so remove the faceplate exposing the test socket underneath and try again, you say the socket is a bit knackered, what it sounds like is that your actual line outwith your property is knackered as you have so much noise and only BT can fix that.

What I would suggest is..

Dial 17070 then select option 2 (Clear line check) and listen for noise, if you hear noise (Hiss etc..) report a fault to BT.
if you hear no hiss, try using another Filter on the modem/router and see if that helps.
if it doesn't, try using another Modem/Router see if that helps.
if that doesn't, check internal wiring for damage, if damaged report it to BT (if you replace it yourself you may risk being disconnected, you have been warned)
if you want to try "rebuilding" the socket or replacing it may help too, but again is against BT's T&Cs and may result in you being disconnected.

Done clear line test and nothing on it i could hear.

It's not like the normal BT master sockets i see as it's just got a loose circuit behind it connected via a phone plug.
I've just ordered a new master socket with adsl filter built in.

Tried different filter, but no difference.
Highest my SNR margin has been in past few days is 7

Can i just replace this myself? why would i be disconnected?

the Socket and everything behind it is BT's property, tampering with it is against BT's T&Cs and can result in your service being disconnected.

Just phoned BT to get them to replace Non NTE5 socket thats my master.
Opened it up and just a circuit board hanging bare behind it, not the two part type that's normally used.
Line crackles when moving it about.
wires bare also.

Hopefully this helps, if not is there anything i can do to increase my margin/SNR?

Why would my house built in 1999 not have the standard NTE5 socket?
What i meant was it crackles when i move the circuit board about in the back.
Only 2 wires connected in to the circuit board. And there bare untill they dissaper down the conduit.
