Sky Letter

[link to this post]

Registed with Sky Connect and got the modem and install is next Monday.

Today got a letter from then saying thank you for choosing their broadband service and enclosed a booklet for reference.

Then goes onto to say
Here's your Sky username: <Blank>

You will only receive your Sky Broadband password once you ahve provided your MAC Code which we require to complete your order.

Few questions:
1) Why is the username blank?
2) I gave them a MAC code when I registered, do I need to give it again?
3) When will I get my password

Is it wise to call them and see what is happening?

I had this as well. Since your username and password are hardcoded to your router it seems to be a non-issue. I got connected yesterday with no problem after getting the same letter.

Sky never send out user names and passwords - as the other poster said, they are hard-coded into the router, and you are not told them. The letter was probably designed when the systems were still in development, and Sky haven't bothered to change them.

I think the username you are referring to is the one you gave to set up your account and is the one used for your default email addy. somebody @ sky .com for instance. Your username is need to access your account on the Sky website.

There is also a username and password to access the router interface, checking your stats or whatever, and those are "admin" and "sky" without the quotation marks however.

Lastly your router is hard coded with the username and password to authenticate, so that is plug and play, no set up required.

Now that's cleared that up....I think.

I have been given Customer avoidance service by Sky on this password business. I even cancelled before the change date (from AOL) but they played unethical games and inflicted the change so had no option but to use their connection at least for now.
Having Sky Anytime (with profile) I can log in but cannot touch e-mail, the new user name intended for e-mail does not log in as no password, the forgotten password system want detail which says incorrect but that is Sky not me.
Have not found the info you guys refer to in the router, is it there and I am missing it? Fortunately I can log into good old AOL via Sky as if I never left - any advice appreciated.

I had exactly the same problem when I set my MIL Sky up last year. I used the forgot password system in a bid to see if logging in would work and it kept saying the same thing you got.

In the end I gave up after three months of frustration and MIL now uses her AOL email address.

I had he same problem late last year. After months of emailing I was finally told to use the 'forgot password' section and then use the last four digits of the card you used to order SKY. It worked and now no problems

After spending about 10 days trying to resolve this log on problem and getting nowhere here is the answer if you happen to have a Sky account before getting broadband. As they cannot fix Sky + to accommodate the 1Hour time change when it occurs twice a year not optimistic about any resolution. Fortunately at the moment I can still use AOL via Sky as if I had never left.

There is a known issue regarding your email account, which we are unable to resolve at this time. Your issue has been escalated to our specialist team for investigation.
We are unable to provide an expected timescale for this issue to be resolved, as the issue is regarding our username database, which has shown an error against your broadband username.
This error occurs when a customer has created a MySky account either before the broadband account was created, or during the creation of the broadband account. This confuses our database, as there are then two instances of your account details, when our system only allows for one.
The resolution is difficult as it is not possible to delete these accounts, as they are both primary accounts which must remain in our systems for legal purposes, and it is not possible to attach email privileges to the non-broadband account, as it is not associated with broadband.
We are working on a workaround for this issue, and this may take some time. However once we are able to provide you with an email service, we will contact you to assist you further.

Thanks for that seems clear what the issue is, no sign of a solution unfortunately.

Best option as I see it is get a Googlemail account perhaps. That is essentially what Sky mail is but ISP independent, so if you move on you take it with you.

Had it when it was Gmail and it is my default mail nowadays, very reliable.
