Is my exchange LLU enabled

[link to this post]

Hi all,

I'm really considering migrating my broadband from Plusnet to Sky (as 20 odd vs 5/10 is a no-brainer really). However, I'm getting really frustrated with what service I can get with Sky

When I ring Sky directly and also on Sky.com it is showing that I can only get standard ADSL (Mid). However, when I use the excellent exchange checker service on Samknows it shows my exchange was enabled for Sky LLU back in May

Does anyone have any idea what is likely to be going on and if Samknows is correct then how can I get Sky to recognise this?

Cheers.

I'm not a sky user but from looking at the package details Sky 'Mid' is an LLU service. The only non LLU service they offer is Sky 'Connect'.

Perhaps they don't have sufficient bandwidth in the exchange (even if it is enabled) to provide you with a faster LLU service?

If you meant all they offer is 'Connect' then perhaps there are no spare ports in their DSLAM in the exchange (full up with other users) so they are offering to provision your service via BT?

Or maybe you aren't connected to the exchange you thought you were - many towns/cities have more than one and you aren't necessarily connected to the closest.

Hi Frank,

Strange as I thought Mid was a resold BT product as well. I am definitely looking at the correct exchange

Samknows is showing as green for Sky LLU so don't know if that indicates capacity?

Cheers.

I may be wrong but I thought Mid was the Sky LLU 8Mbps package and Connect was the BT 8Mbps package.

With Mid being 5 per month and connect being 17 per month due to the higher BT charges.

I think the green just shows that the exchange is enabled, I don't know if there is a site that shows capacity - did they give any reason for only offering Mid when you spoke to them?

If you are too far away from the exchange to get the max product speed then they will only offer you mid. Post your stats.

Only connect is non LLU

Mid is the LLU package and connect is the BT one, connect can be offerd at 5 per month if the LLU capacity at your exchange is full at present.

I'm on Sky Max and am too far from the exchange to get ADSL2+ from them (my router syncs around 7128 kbps on g.dmt), I went for Max to get the higher upload speed as well as unlimited.

Mid base and Max are LLU packages, Sky Connect is BT IPstream based. I've seen it suggested that they may set a limit on the number of "Max" connections at exchanges, in which case only Mid would be available until they add capacity. I don't know whether they'd allow you to switch from Mid to Max while in contract.

Thanks for the clarification guys.

Yes must be a LLU capacity issue then. The CS I spoke to at Sky told me it was no problem to switch from Mid to Max mid conract?

Cheers.

I have the same problem, exchanged activated but I can only get connect at full price.

If they are planning to increase capacity they give you connect for the same price as the LLU services till they install more lines.

Untill then we wait!!!
