Happy to be joining! Hopefully!

Having been a recent victim of Pipex's residential migration to Tiscali's network I've bashed them on the head and will be joining Sky soon!

I use a PS3 online and can acheive over 6Mbps so have gone with the mid package.

If anyone know any good reason why I should avoid sky please advise what problems they know of, but looking at the forums hopefully all will go swimmingly!

I have an xbox 360, im on the mid package and get over 7Mbps. Its a great service for a fiver.

As you play games, you may need to get your pings reduced!. I emailed Sky from the website and requested my delays be reduced to 8 (Im not sure what that means). This reduced my pings to www.bbc.co.uk from 80ms to 34ms.

Welcome to Sky had I hope u get the same 5 Star service I get

Yeah, interleaving on Sky is switched on by default. Sky won't switch the interleaving off, but they will reduce the interleaving depth, which should leave you with a ping low enough to effectively play online.

Other than that, no complaints so far !

sounds good! Since Pipex migrated me to Tiscali's network I have got some serious lag on my PS3. Interestingly Sky look like they might be one of the bidders for Tiscali

Being an Ex Tiscali victim, all i can say is, if Sky get it, then there will be a lot of very happy new customers.

I was so glad the escape committee got me out of Starlag Tiscali.

I heard that the most probable purchaser of Tiscali was Vodafone. Don't know how true that is, though.

excuse my ignorance here but what is the alternative to interleaving? is it fast path? what are the main differences in service and does anyone know if Pipex ran fast path as I'm convinced I saw it when I was flicking through my router stats, Tiscali's network definately showed as interleaved.

Fastpath vs. interleaving is normally an automatic switch -- fastpath by default, but if your line has problems, interleaving would probably be turned on (and could only be turned off manually). Pipex was probably automatic, but I think Sky BB has interleaving enabled by default -- however, I hear it can be turned off on request (particularly for gamers)

Sky turn it on by default to reduce support calls and seldom turn it off by req if ever , they will reduce the depth but this in turn reduced the upstream speed to 384k

Its a one size fits all mentality and not a good one , but hey thats why its cheap.

On a positive note I am on 46db line 8096k sync and download at over 7000k even when the kids come out of school something Zen (BT DSL) could never manage, it amazes me how they manage it given mine is a heavily loaded exchange for SKY / Easynet.

I'm happy to 'fiddle' with it a bit as I am making a compromise by choosing Sky, as long as it works and it seems to from what I can hear, I live quite close to the exchange too so hopefully that'll help!

One worrying line of text in my Sky Broadband Joining letter... "To get online with Sky Broadband we need your telephone line to be activated. BT have informed us that the estimated date for this to happen is 17/06/2008"

Now my BT line is up and running... I hope they just mean the switch over, but as both Tiscali(Pipex my old/current ISP) & Sky have their own LLU equipment in this exchange and Pipex's recent reputation for being troublesome with people migrating their service away from them I am nervous!
