Sky pushing Connect over Max?

[link to this post]

My neighbour is interested in joining Sky so he phoned and asked what packages were available. He was told he could only get Connect with an upto 6meg speed.

When he pointed out that his neighbour (me) was on the Max package he was told "Oh yes sorry Max is available, but only upto 6 meg".

I fail to see how they come to the 6meg figure as he is unable to supply any router stats, he doesn't know how. Plus the fact that on the Sky website the only checker is a postcode checker.

When I get time I'll get the router stats and see what http://www.farina1.com/adsl/default.aspx
makes of it.

Now on Sky Max. Still a big fan of IDNet smile

They pull an approximation of your line speed from BT's stats. Hence the not asking for any router stats - remeber tho it is just an approximation they give.
Eg try it with any provider for ADSL - if they have some sort of checker it will say something along the lines of.....................speed xx meg
"This is based on information BT gave us about your BT line. Actual download speeds depend on different things, like the distance between your telephone exchange and your home, or the quality of your BT line." that quote is pulled from beunlimited website but they will all say the same thing

I doubt whether Sky would "push" a third-party product over their own, if it was available.

That makes no sense. If shy is on your exchange then it would make more sense for them to put you on that as there is more profit to be made. Unless they are fresh out of capacity to connect you.
