Sky line rental and BT phone line contract

[link to this post]

I'm about to move to a new flat and need to connect a new phone line there. I was planning to take sky broadband with sky line rental as soon as I get the line connected, but when you set up phone line with BT you are forced to take one of their 12 month deals. Is there any way to avoid this? Is BT the only company that can connect a new phone line in UK?

There are others. Postoffice, plusnet and a few more - but I think they will have contracts. Don't know if Sky have started or plan to provide line installs but I know they didn't a while back. This is more a failing with Sky than BT though.

Thanks for reply. I checked Post Office website and it seems they install phone lines with no minimum term and installation fee is lower than in BT.

Sounds good. Don't have experience of Post office myself but I knew it was cheaper than BT - didn't realise they have no long tie ins though - could be just right for you.

Good luck.

Have you tried asking Sky? Rumour had it that they have started doing this to make sure that they get your business.
