Giganews

[link to this post]

Any funnies going on tonight with Sky blocking Giganews that anyone's aware of?

I can't connect to the European server from my newsreader, I can tracert from my PC to Giganews but a reverse trace from giganews appears to getting blocked at Sky - both the US and Euro servers.

Are you using the encrypted port?

I've tried both ports on my newsreader (usually use 119) with no joy. Everything was fine last night.

I think the problem is more if I try a reverse trace, i.e. from Giganews website back to me, it stops as soon as it hits Sky's servers. So the HTML part of the site is o.k. but not the NNTP part.

Hang on, call off the search laugh

Things have suddenly kicked back into life - the reverse trace is still getting blocked but my newsreader is currently getting its headers (on 119)

I'm seeing giganews blocked too, using secure 443. Traceroute also fails, after
bu4.gr10.telon.uk.easynet.net [89.200.135.145]

easynews is working, so it's not a protocol block. They must just have it in for gn.

Strange. It's not working here either. Can't tracert to news or news-europe. Last known to be working for me approx 8am Wednesday although I only noticed it later that day. Not a peep on 119 or 563. Not a client issue this end as it's perfectly fine when connecting via VyprVPN. It's almost as if there's some routing issue inbetween.

I'm having the same problem.

news.giganews.com works fine and the European server works if I use a VPN.
Sky blocking or they have routing issues for the past few days...?

Doubt Sky would block, especially not just the European server. Probably just a routing issue

I'm having the same problem. Only moved to Sky on wednesday and the only way i can access Giganews is via VPN. It's a bit of an annoyance but on the plus side at least VPN is working on Sky. It never did for O2!
