Hello,
I am new to this forum. I set up the router 3 days ago and I am getting appalling performance (see below). The other line in the house has a BT Broadband which gives me 5 Mbps downstream and around 500 Kbps upstream.
The service I have is Sky Connect with the expectation that the exchange will be upgraded to LLU in October when I will also get Sky Anytime+. However, I will lose the BT line soon and will be left with this until the upgrade. OK, I know that I have to wait 10 days while the line performance is tested but would you agree that the results so far don't look good?
Any suggestions or advice would be welcome. Is this going to get better?
Regards, Steve.

Try running another speedtest after midnight, Sky Connect is known to be heavily traffic managed.
I've seen lines go from .5Mb up to 6.8Mb immediately on the stroke of midnight on Sky Connect lines.

Regards, Steve. my suggestion is leave Sky and there appalling Connect services ASAP and as too , " are things going to get better" , i think my first answer should give you every thing you want to know .
Its one of the worst broadband products available and ties you into a 12 month contract , do you have written conformation Sky are doing your exchange in October ? if not get out now ( even with written confirmation , i would still not suffer sky Connect for one week let alone a few months) .

I was told this quite catagorically by the sales team that took my order. It was on that understanding that I decided to go ahead because at the same time, I would get Anytime +. Their exact statement was "within 3 months." At the point when the service changes (they go to LLU), my fee will actually reduce as well.

You are right ...... unbellievable !!! =
The downstream link is now showin 6.5 Mbps at 00:20 hrs.
Thanks very much for that tip.

It has been that way for a while. When I saw it do that, was over a year a go so they're still throttling users just as bad.

I don't have this in writing. I take your point but without trying to be funny, how do I get out now if I have just committed to a 1 year contract? Sky will try to fob me off, blag or say anything. What can I say to them? The phone service will go over in just a few days and then they'll have my phone number as a hostage as well. It is tempting to call BT and stop the phone service going over.

I don't have this in writing. I take your point but without trying to be funny, how do I get out now if I have just committed to a 1 year contract? Distance selling regulations, perhaps? There is a statutory "cooling off" period which Sky must observe / obey.

I'm in exactly the same position. just joined connect. I have been told that I can't now leave and am stuck with the service.
Out of interest when you get poor speeds go and do a speed test with bt (speedtester.bt.com) I get 0.5mb speeds with all tests, very poor web browsing etc but the Bt speedtest gives me normal results.
£17 for this...bargain
good luck

distance selling act gives you 14 days but as the service is so rubbish you could easily argue that its not fit for purpose .
Its well documented on these forum and over a long time , that Sky blanket throttle the service during peak times that render it useless for everything apart from basic web surfing .

I dont want to come across as being a bit Schadenfreude, however if you take what a sales person tells you....... I've seen this 3 month promise on the exchange (wnnn) i use, it took them just short 3 years to do it, TT did first then 2 month later Sky followed.
My views are my experiences.

Also to add and back up what you have just said , Sales people will say what you want to hear , to get you to sign that 12 month contract , so they can earn commission .
Edit: just to add my current ISP TalTalk have some of the worst sales tactics around but i can assure you other sales people will resort to the same tactics to close a deal no matter what ISP .
So always take what sales people say , with a huge pinch of salt . and i was under the impression Sky keep there unbundling plans very secretive with very little notice of exchanges going live .

You can cancel Sky Broadband within 8 working days of delivery of your Wireless Router or your Activation Date, whichever is the later.

It has been that way for a while. When I saw it do that, was over a year a go so they're still throttling users just as bad.
A friend of mine on a Market 1 exchange has had Connect since 2007 - its one of the cheapest with 40gb usage. He syncs at 8128 on a 20db attenuation line. He used to get 250kbps maximum on Saturday afternoons - but since early 2011, he gets 2meg.
He's happy enough, but I'd have left long ago.... but then I'd pay more to get more, he can't. He's prefer to pay less :-/
Market 1 exchanges suck.
James - be* pro - on THFB - sync about 17.2mbps - BQM

Everyone understands why they traffic shape, but it is quite odd to just have to immediately return to normal at midnight.
Either they're doing it just to ensure "peak" times work OK, or they're too lazy to tier their shaping to certain times like Plusnet.

Or Sky did me free connect for a year, I'd heard horror stories about their service but assumed most isps have them, Appears they weren't unfounded frown
Thanks again smile
And as stated previously you do have 8 days in which to cancel Sky

Sky used to offer Connect at the LLU price prior to an exchange being unbundled. Not seen any recent posts I must admit, but it was a carrot dangled when Sky were on a land grab exercise, moons ago.
Many put up with the inferior product due to the price that was usually held until the exchange was unbundled.
Hope you get this resolved because I have never seen a happy poster on Connect I'm afraid.

Seen similar stories from those on O2 access (as with connect its a BT circuit) but they have overcrowded Centrals/hostlinks which hand off the traffic to their network because obviously they don't want to spend more money with BT than they have to.
Virgin (ADSL) => Namesco => Newnet => O2 => Plusnet => Zen => Newnet => Zen Lite 8000
