It depends on what router you have.

So no point in asking w/out specifying!

1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up => 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB => 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB => 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU => 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU => 2011: Orange 19 Meg WBC

ok,

so its router specific. Thats whymine is just 2.04 and the other is 2.8. Both look almost exactly the same via the web interface.

They may look the same but they are not.

The sky router here in Gorslas looks the same as mine in Merthyr, but the model numbers are different.

The interfaces look the same (mainly) but they are different models and I think the same attributes apply in the differences you are stating.

Model numbers would seem to be the key but nobody has bothered to quote any frown

Most likely. I have the same version.

Or is my firmware just old?

Sky rolls it out. If it's available.

Different firmware as the fibre Openreach modem connects to one of the ethernet ports.

James - be* pro - 16.8mbps sync - BQM
FTTC cab arrived 18-jun-2012 (due Mar 2011) - Openreach estimate 44.6Mbps / 6.5Mbps

Mine's the white Sky netgear DG834GT, the first router given out by sky

Latest Sky firmware version for it is V1.04.13 --- that version comes with WPA2 wireless support and MER added, and has broken address reservation.

I've fixed mine so it won't upgrade from V1.03.87, because I need address reservation.

The more people who pester Sky about the DHCP reservation bug the better. If Sky disable PPPoA the router will become useless.

Thats a strange one. I was on MER for a while, or rather since the day I signed up. Then for some reason with the N router, one day I noticed it rescyned as PPPoA.

Same here, I've been moved from MER to PPPoA. Seems they can't make their minds up which one to use!

Same here. My router is the D-Link DSL-2640S and always used MER. A few months ago I had a re-sync and it changed to PPPoA and has stayed that way ever since.
