...A BeUnlimited IP again
It's a week now since I was migrated from O2 to Sky. I did a speedtest.net test, and got a faster download speed than I had on O2 (IP address was something like 43. or 46. and the site said it was still BeUnlimited) I was obviously connected to sky as I had to make the config changes to my own Netgear router and my line speed went up a bit (as per my signature)
I though I'd do a speedtest with all the wind we're having, and to see if I have been trained any higher, and now I have a 93. address again, and my speeds have gone back to the slightly slower speeds prior to migration (everything still working fine on the sky config)
I just wondered if this was to be expected?

IP changes frequently.
With the last IP change, my speed has also increased.
It is and was skybroadband.com

Mine has degraded significantly since it changed overnight - I will give them some time given the weather we're having
PS Are you saying it's common for them to bounce your connection every night?

Sometimes several days - the IP is usually changed in the early hours.
Recently, it has changed nightly.

IP usually only changes nightly if line testing is testing new speeds (and therefore dropping the synch).

Explain this line testing?
Sky line here that stays up for weeks and weeks

It usually only runs in the first 10 days of a connection going live. After that, on rare occasions, it can run again, but usually it doesn't.

Thanks for the replies guys
Anyway, I will be leaving ASAP now I've seen the extra charges for the pleasure of not having sky talk and other sky services

That sounds more like the system...
Those with less knowledge could have got the idea that Sky drops connections at night, no matter how long you've been a customer.
They work different to the others in terms of starting at 4 Mbps (if possible) and working the speed in the upwards direction.

Typically line testing should be notified here: https://my.sky.com/mysky/myaccount/mybroadband/
In my experience this page is out of date or wrong, though.

I never got line tested when i was transferred from O2, and still havn't, got transferred over a couple of weeks ago now.

Perhaps in some cases migrants are provisioned differently. The worst case scenario is that the line is provisioned at 4 meg and line testing doesn't start automatically (in which case Sky staff need to start it manually).

Likewise, got transferred back in November, connected straight away (O2 Wireless Box 2) at my usual 8Mbs, where it has largely stayed (currently 9Mbs down, 800kbs up). No sign whatsoever of DLM training. The O2 box sometimes connects as ADSL1 instead of ADSL2+, a power down and reset of the box seems to cure this. And the up speed will always be lower than what you got on O2 unless you have a very fast line, just the way O2 works.

Do all your IP addresses remain unchanged,
a) after the line testing is complete?
b) on a subsequent restart when you switch off your router?

No and no, Sky IP addresses are fully dynamic on ADSL.
Edit: having said that, the IP address will not change as long as synch is maintained, which could be weeks or months.

My line attenuation is 61.0 dB up 38.5 dB down - expect that's the reason for losing sync and the frequent changes in Sky IP.
