not happy & only been with sky for a few days,,,,,, hidden c

[link to this post]

i was a member of BE there isp before i got moved to sky adsl, & on my welcome letter sky it said i would be paying £12.50 a month what is ok in the meanwhile until i make my mind up who to move too.

however i was looking about my sky account & my money bill is showing up as £20 ! so i asked a online adviser who said =
"I am sorry to hear that you are being charged for not having Sky TV and Sky Talk. I apologise for the inconvenience caused to you.
I would like to inform you that as per the Sky policy, you will be charged for supplement charges if you have Sky Broadband without having Sky TV and Sky Talk services."

therefore my £12.50 as gone up to £17.50 but it is £20 ( is that with vat or are sky making prices up as they go along ? ) on there systems for some reason !, however the hidden changes were NOT in the welcome letter i had off sky just before i got moved to there systems.

maybe i should take this up with OFCOM ( The independent regulator and competition authority for the UK communications industries ) & Communications Ombudsman to see what they say.
unless they can get my bill down to the 12.50 like what the letter said in the first place with out these so called hidden charges.

regards

Kenny.

Are you able to copy and paste the calculations from your bill from the Sky website?

I can not go to the bill side of my sky account as yet, as I have only been with them a few days sorry to say.

but in the Personalise your package part of my account it says =
Current monthly cost £20

but why did the letter I had say it was only £12.50 a month ? & now my account & sky are telling me it is because of this or that. so the letter was wrong due to these hidden charges..... I am not happy & I know its only a few pounds but still.

The first bill covers payment for the first month (which can be 0 days or 30 days depending on activation date) plus the next month. I think that will explain the bill. You should see this once you get your online account set up.

Or for example.

- you join on 7th April
- Sky set billing date as 1st of month
- Sky take payment for 7th April to 31st May
- next payment goes out on 1st June for 1 month

just had this off sky =
"I'm sorry to know that you're unhappy about your Sky bills.

I've reviewed your account and see that you've subscribed for only the Sky Broadband Unlimited Pro at £12.50 a month.
However, as you've not subscribed for the Sky TV and Sky Talk services. you've been charged £2.50 a month and £5.00 a month for these services respectively, as per the Sky policies.

Hence, I'm afraid that these charges are correct and have to maintained, according to Sky Terms and Conditions.
Please click here to explore any offers available for you online.

Whilst I realise that you may be disappointed with the decision made, I hope that you can appreciate our position on this matter.

so it looks like I \ we were kept in the dark about these hidden charges ! what should have been highlighted in the sky welcome letter etc.

If you were auto-migrated you should be getting a welcome discount. This may not be showing on their systems.

You should be able to sign up for a Sky ID now and see your bill. https://skyid.sky.com

I also chose the auto-migration path after being sent a specific letter saying that I will be charged £10 and now the new letter with minimal migration details or cost analysis, states it will more than what I was paying Be - this is Bait and Switch and I have been shafted!

Also, I was migrated at around 3am today and suddenly there is no Xbox Live (80072741) and also getting no connection with the 'Wi-fi unstable/unavailable' message on Android devices - this my worst nightmare with Easter weekend coming up and now I have to contact The SKY!

I usually make the best of everything and don't complain too much. But this is not 'making me happy' and will bide my time with an intent to ditch them as soon as I can. In hindsight, I should have done it when they announced the takeover. I will contact OFCOM regardless of what happens - now that I have had a first-hand/day experience. I have no doubt there is more to come when I have to contact them tomorrow and expecting a world of pain..

well to cut a many phones & emails down to this comment =

sky rang me this morning & the nice lady did her best to sort out my account & she did look for offers on adsl & fibre but she could not fully help me or my questions.
so she said she would pass me on to the dept. who deals with offers & they also do the BE there & other isp swap overs.

however the other lady rang me up & said the letter will be looked at & it looks like the system did noy sent me out the letter with the prices & breakdown on it. or my letter was wrong somehow. she said she can give me free line rental for a year & £65 or £75 gift card if I stayed with sky & moved to there fibre pro !.

but I said I would pass due to the start of this mess & what hidden things do they have in the pipe lines to make more money out of us.

my line rental is with BT & sky wanted it & the calls moved to them to offer me a deal, so I have moved to BT fibre now as I got my mac code over the phone.

sorry sky but you were not open with me from the start of this & I like saving money but not like this.

I really don't understand why you don't create a Sky ID and view your bill: https://skyid.sky.com/

It would probably eliminate the confusion here.

I migrated yesterday and created a Sky ID - the bill is not available. Yet, a letter which arrived a day or so ago states a substantially higher price than the initial price stated by Sky for me to migrate.

That's a shame, I would have thought the first bill would appear in My Sky as soon as it's raised. Mine always have. I can't remember my first bill though since it was ages ago.

Thanks.

The side-panel is showing the correct amount i.e. £10 or what I had committed myself to auto-migrate. The included surcharge of £5.00 + £2.50 for not taking other services was already mentioned in the initial letter and told me to do nothing if I agreed with it.

Although, this is the least of my worries at present, as there are a lot of problems. For starters: the login details with Sky ID on the router report wrong username/password message. However, the [email protected] credentials keep me connected. I received no information prior to migration on switching to PPPoA etc. - just the new Static IP via email; many thanks to the folks here for advance information.

Also, XBL is non-existent - even though the test reports I am connected to the server. Unstable Wi-fi connection on S4 (yes, I have done most of the troubleshooting, short of a Reset on the phone). It is definitely an ISP based problem.

I forgot to mention that I am using Draytek Vigor 2820; still it is very strange to be in a limbo where I am connected to the MS Network but without any access to Amazon Instant, Netflix, iPlayer etc. If I have read the consensus correctly - my next step is probably to delete the profile and download it again.

It's interesting that the majority of complaints regarding Sky billing are coming from Be* members.

I was with O2 and the migration was painless.I was told up front what the charges were, £7.50 for broadband + surcharges for not having Sky TV & Talk which was another £7.50.

I was given a welcome discount of £7.50 for the 1st year hence my monthly broadband charge will be £7.50.

I have received my 1st bill from Sky for £16ish but that covers the changeover period, current Sky usage and 1 month in advance (which these [censored] like)

Similar to having Dual Fuel discount with gas or electicity.

Was Eclipse Home Option 1, VM 2Mb & O2 Standard
Now Utility Warehouse (up to 16mbps) via Talk Talk

Hi all, I have also been migrated from Be to SKY recently and am experiencing the same billing issue. Besides the supplement charges for NOT having anything else besides broadband, do you all also realise that you could have been double-charged? I paid my last bill to BE on 22nd March for the period of 24th March-23rd April. My new SKY bill is charging me for the period of 4th April-1st May, then 2nd May-1st June.
So my question is, what happens to the overlapped payments between BE and SKY (4th April - 23rd April). Why am I charged double??? Are there other BE members experiencing the same thing?
My BE account is obviously cancelled by SKY now and I am unable to access to retrieve the invoice for my last payment. I do however have a payment confirmation.

You will automatically get a refund from Be via your direct debit (and that direct debit will then be closed by them) for the unused part of your last BE month. The first month bill from Sky is indeed confusing as it covers parts of two months (depending when exactly you were migrated) but it you do all the sums it, coupled with the refund from Be, will work out exactly at the monthly rate they notified you in your transfer letter. Your second month's bill from Sky will be far easier to understand... (I moved from O2 last November, I assume the situation will be identical for Be customers).

Well I can join this thread now.. I just got hit by a charge of £38.39 !! I also had an email shortly after the migration from Be debiting £8.84 from my account.

This is a con. They have purposely misled people. It was said to Be customers (probably O2 as well) that they were creating a new package for ex O2/Be customers, yet from the looks of it we've got a poorer product than we had with O2/Be and now got hit by a massive bill.

It's disgraceful when a big name company as to resort to manipulating their letters they send out to people to trick them in to thinking its one price. But its another.

Another reason why I'm going to be leaving this BAD company ASAP. As soon as my line that they tamped with and wrecked gets corrected.

Also transferred over from O2 with no problems, this extra charge for not having Sky Talk or Tv, is that every month ?, as when i got my letter about being transferred, and the price id be paying, it was only £14 a month, 50p less than i was paying on O2, and thats all im charged every month, £14, im not being charged extra for not having the Talk or Tv.

No i didn't take any offers, i just waited to be migrated.

Incidentally, ive just noticed, i re-synced over 18hrs ago, and my upload has now gone to 1.024 (previously stuck at 800 on these), and my download has gone up to 7.616 (previously 7,040), so thats good. smile

Had about 5/6 re-syncs since being migrated end of January, on O2, i was rock solid, before id migrated to these, i was well over 100+ days connected.
