Sky SR102 Rebooting Cycle

[link to this post]

My Sky SR102 hub has been rebooting itself the last few weeks. I obtained a replacement which has been doing the same... It's rather annoying.

Anybody else noticing this behaviour?

It's frustrating to be knocked offline as the Hub reboots itself.

I haven't kept track of the firmware to notice if its changed.

It varies, between once a day and once every 100 - 200 or so hours.

Busy connection or idle when reboots?

Pretty much always busy... Not heavily downloading but multiple devices connected.
It's rather annoying. I may get a modem and my own kit, although that's a fair bit of effort with sky's MER.

Get a modem and connect the SR102 to it ? At least if the 102 reboots, it won't affect the line sync.

Monitor the noise levels with Routerstats Lite:-

It's not affecting the sync, it just rebooted after 300 hours uptime.

I think I have figured out the issue.

I have always had the Sky Hub connected and 2 further hardwired 2.4 & 5Ghz AP's elsewhere in the house, so I have been serving my devices with 3 routers.

Long story cut short spilt liquid down one router and the other failed.
I now have at least 10 devices via WiFi with often around 15 - 20.

The Sky Hub cant keep up and it reboots.

In time I will get another 2 APs, but for now it's not a priority.

Word of warning for everyone: having 10+ devices on the SR102 means it'll reboot on its own accord. I've gone from 100% stability to this.

Overall, disappointed with this router now.

It's easily done getting this number of devices. There are 5 people in my house, all with at least 1 phone (some of us have work & personal phones though so 2 each),

7 WiFi enabled phones (3 are for work), 2 WiFI TVs, 2 Apple TVs, 1 chromecast, 2 Sky boxes over WiFi, 1 PS4, an xbox 360, 1 WiFi printers, 5 laptops personal, 3 laptops for work.

It really adds up. Obviously these things are not all on at once but usually 10ish.

Sky have openly admitted over on their forums that anything over 16 devices is unstable on the SR101/102 hubs, can't say I've seen reports of it actually rebooting though. Usually it just stops all wireless traffic (not wired though) until it is manually power cycled.

I guess it's possible Sky have now updated the firmware to recognise the condition and force a reboot automatically.

Interesting.

I have 19 devices connected right now, everything is working fine and it's all via wireless. It may reboot at any second though...

I'm getting around 200 hours uptime before it reboots currently.

I'm definitely pushing it to the limits.

Popped in a second Sky Hub I had laying around for now.

It seems to have split things fairly evenly for now.

I have 3 devices wired in now too.

Will see how it is.

I think the Sky Hub only fails when too many things connect over WiFi.

I know this forum post is old at this point, however in the 6 years that we've had the SR102 within the past 4 or so days it keeps restarting at 2 hour intervals.

Nothing seems to fix it from what I've tried already.

Does sort of lead towards the inbuilt modem having an error as every time it'll reconnect it will just sit there for an extra 2 maybe 3 minutes because the modem is experiencing some kind of connectivity issue.

Edit: I have been tracking it via BQM as well: https://www.thinkbroadband.com/broadband/monitoring/...

Can't edit - although it seems as if the reset function has fixed it. Hasn't restarted in over 7 hours now.
