Having just moved over to Sky, this isn't how I remember the service some years back. We were connected on Monday and my graph has been fine, but today after a re- sync and increase in sync, my graph looks like this:

Wife has been trying to work from home today, normally doesn't even give a yellow spike and my Son has been game playing. He hasn't moaned about an increase in latency, but just wondering how to interpret what is going on here?
Thanks

Hasn't got any better:

I'm stumped, nothing has changed here apart from moving from my old isp to Sky. I have had several re- syncs as the router doesn't seem particularly stable, the old isp used to keep sync for 60- 70 days, the most so far has been 30 hours! I know the Sky router isn't brilliant, but surely this isn't all the router?
Thanks

Is there something on your network that's connecting to the internet at regular intervals? Maybe a cloud hosting service? Those "blips" are happening exactly every 15 minutes which seems odd and it looks almost exactly like mine does when my upload is saturated. The sky router isn't fantastic, but it doesn't look like that (here's mine) https://www.thinkbroadband.com/broadband/monitoring/...
Other thing to consider, is did they do a DLM reset when they switched you? It might take a few days for DLM to get you back to where you were (I don't think this is the issue due to the regularity of it, but it's worth consdering)

Thanks for taking the time to reply.
I'm stumped. Nothing new has been added to the network and it was fine on my other isp. It was fine for 3 days until the re- sync and then this. It has been up 39 hours now like this. Not sure how I track down what the cause is? I suppose it will be a case of disconnect everything to see if it goes away and re- connecting one by one until it starts again.
I would assume the DLM has reset as I am now on LLu whereas before it was a BT line.

There is no DLM on an LLU line - it will just run at the maximum your line can provide. That was me making assumptions that you were on FTTC (my bad).
If you are genuinely on LLU (ADSL - Sky provide their FTTC through OR) then according to the BQM page this is a non-issue. https://www.thinkbroadband.com/faq/broadband-quality...
BQM sawtooth pattern showing jitter affecting max latency caused by some routers
A graph of this sort appears to be common with users of the Sky LLU broadband service. It does not appear to represent an actual problem with the service, or affect any applications running across the connection. This is just one of those odd situations that a particularly router appears to cause.
What router did they give you? The BQM I posted above is for the SR203 but the ER115 showed similar on FTTC. If they gave you an SR102 (one of these: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/rGoAAOSwjm5dQpxY/s-l6... I could definitely see it doing that, that router was a load of [censored]. It's probably overloading itself connecting to the NTP server or something.
Either way, if there is no actual issue with the connection I can't see Sky showing much interest.

The OP is on FTTC. as his profile states at up to 55Mbps on Sky, so he is not on LLU, but Openreach FTTC with DLM with SKY backhaul from the head end exchange. The BQM is unusual and not like the sawtooth pattern you suggest. There is some regular event giving high latency spikes When the OP first switched providers the BQM was normal but changed after a resync so difficult to blame the router.

My bad, my lack of understanding of LLU, I thought because it was on Sky equipment at the exchange, it was LLU.
I have the ER115 router and did wonder if it was the router. It only has 2 network ports (which is a bit tight), so I bought a switch to add my other connections. I disconnected that, but found no difference, so it wasn't the switch. I also read about deactivating the SIP Application Layer Gateway and the H.323 Application Layer Gateway, as I still have a physical phone number, not voip (that was a deal breaker for me).The router was running excessively hot yesterday, so I added some extra ventilation around it, in case that was causing the issues, but it hasn't made any difference.
A wired speed test gives this: https://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/16265107071...
Wireless gives me this: https://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/16265108032...
That said, speeds were down to 10mb last night
This was one from my previous provider: https://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/16258277496...
I can't rule out the router though as trying to find a cost effective one that works with Sky is proving difficult. My old Technicolor TG589vac used to handle the line perfectly, gave a higher sync and consistent speed tests. I'd had a good experience with Sky previously, probably should've stayed where I was!
My next test is to wait until the house is empty and turn the router off for an hour or so, see if I get a different ip address and see if it makes a difference once the router has had a chance to cool fully.

Yes, that was my bad, I didn't realise FTTC wasn't LLU, my misunderstanding of the system

I once saw something similar. It used to strike me exactly every three months. Turned out to be a Netgear router bug (never officially confirmed but it stopped when I switched routers). Was really odd but every three months (to the hour - the clue was when it happened in summer and it did it an hour later) it would start with latency spikes.

Just FYI the ER115 always runs hot, that was one of the reasons I asked them to send me a SR203 when I renewed my contract. Damn thing always made me a bit nervous.

Thanks for that, I wonder if I can one of them and try that? I'll have a look around.

Now i'm thoroughly confused. My router was turned off at the mains, the telephone line unplugged from the rear from midday to 2pm. Surely that should now be showing 100% loss? How is data still getting through to the BQM?

Your BQM is pointing to the incorrect address. Probably your connection dropped and give you another address, and the old address was allocated to someone else.
|
|
|
You could be onto something there. It's very strange though as with my old isp, when the connection dropped and the ip changed, I was faced with a sea of red, that was how I knew the connection had dropped. Don't really understand why it is so different with this provider? It is definitely a different address as it is now showing as an ipv6 address instead of the ipv4 it was before. Let's see what happens. Looks like I was being stupid all along
|
|
|
So the IPV6 gave 100% packet loss Did a Google and found I need to use a address on the router itself, so have put in the IPv6 Global Address from the LAN port. I also ran a speedtest on Ookla that gave me a IPV4 address, so have added that to another graph. Both seem to be working now, but I imagine the IPV6 one is the one to be using?

I sent you a PM, but maybe you haven't seen it. Whereabouts are you based? Our BQMs seem to share a lot of the same poor looking features. See this thread: https://forums.thinkbroadband.com/sky/f/4731097-sky-...
