Finally went live with 500mbit FTTP from SKY today. It's amazing it has finally happened, I organised a Gigabit voucher scheme campaign last year. We literally hit the deadline just before we would no longer be eligible.
Mega happy with the speeds my only disappointment is I have to use the Sky router and can't just connect via PPOE with my Ubiquiti Amplifi Alien router. With my FTTC service I just disabled the wifi on the Sky router but annoyingly with the latest model even when disabled it still shows up. Hoping thats just a bug with the firmware.

Sky use DHCP/IPoE rather than PPPoE for authentication.

I know. I was hoping for FTTP it might be different, but unfortunately not.

Cant you set the client ID under DHCP option 61 in your router to authenticate?
You don't get a lot of options unfortunately. This is the options I get:

What happens if you change "Network Type"?
Oliver.

Can you not select another “network type” from the drop down at the top of the page, like simply DHCP?
PPPoE is the incorrect network type in this scenario.

I am currently using DHCP but plugged into the Sky router.

Right, assuming Option 61 isn't at the end of that page all you can really do is make a request to the manufacturer for a firmware revision.

Just had a G search. Looks like UI don’t supprt it on their routers WAN interface…or at least didn’t 2 years ago:

Just been looking and it does appear to have been added:
AmpliFi firmware v3.0.0 has been released.
Release notes:
Guest Network in bridge mode
Friend Network *
Option to bypass internet pause for a single device *
Wi-Fi protected setup using mobile app *
Added DHCP Option 61 (Client ID) support *
Support for TR-069
Guest devices are now accessible via LAN
Added AmpliFi Instant and Gamer's edition support for Teleport
Security updates and stability improvements
Performance enhancements
Minor bug fixes
Also read this:
Hi mike
Your best bet is to follow the skyuser forums for setting up your own router with Sky. (Not the official forum)
You can now use any random number in the login prefix, as long as its in the correct format,
Also as mentioned above this needs to be in hex format for option 61 on the Amplifi HD
Obviously ensure you are running 3.0.0 firmware.
Isn't Ubiquiti's stuff all Linux under the hood? You could likely get it to work if you were willing to tinker with it a bit.
Admittedly never been my fave / go-to manufacturer for routers. Access points and wireless gear different matter...
What FW version are you running?
You may see more options via a desktop browser interface rather than phone.
Latest firmware
3.6.2
I can see DHCP option 61
Actually ignore that, there is no option 61.

Can you configure it via a general web portal - or is it only via the app?
Yes but this option isn't there either. I've asked on the router forum. Sounds like it might only be available for detain models.
It's looking that way...
See, Documentation -> Firmware Release Notes in the link:
https://help.amplifi.com/hc/en-us#h_c7bcaac6-84b5-4c...
For your AmpliFi Alien:
v3.2.0 - Added support for AmpliFi Alien
Can't see specific mention in subsequent updates for DHCP Option 61 (Client ID) support, as there is below for the AmpliFi HD, Instant and Gamer Edition - although it may be implied that its grandfathered from the v3.0.0 update...though note the *carveout when the feature was introduced in the earlier models.
For the AmpliFi HD, Instant and Gamer Edition:
v3.0.0 (12-Jun-19)
Guest Network in bridge mode
Friend Network *
Option to bypass internet pause for a single device *
Wi-Fi protected setup using mobile app *
Added DHCP Option 61 (Client ID) support *
Support for TR-069
Guest devices are now accessible via LAN
Added AmpliFi Instant and Gamer's edition support for Teleport
Security updates and stability improvements
Performance enhancements
Minor bug fixes
* Some functionality will be enabled with future app updates

Dam, hopefully it will come at some point.
Thanks for looking. If it does I'll update here.

I have had a response on the AMPLIFI forum and it does appear like it's supported
I believe you select DHCP and enter you HEX value in to the DHCP Client ID text field directly underneath the drop down
However when I try this it doesn't get an IP.
I'm not being thick and I. Was plugging the AMPLIFI directly into the openreach ONT box.

The hex value that you input, does that otherwise transcribe to and follow the ascii format that Sky are expecting for the ID field?
I was just taking a username and password in this format and converting it to HEX format:
kingbiscit124@skydsl|abcd1234
Did you include the ‘pipe’ character (think it’s 7C in hex)?
Does it possibly require an Option 60 string being set too?
https://docs.opnsense.org/manual/how-tos/SkyUK.html
Yes included the pipe.
Will give the option 60 string a go tonight. worth a try.
Can you possibly screenshot how you are entering these lease options?
I will do this when I get home tonight. Thanks for your help I really appreciate it. Seems daft having an extra device being powered 24 hours a day if its not needed.

Finally managed to do this. Kids were getting annoyed with me keep messing so waited until they were at school.
I tried both:
12345678@skydsl|12345678
313233343536373840736b7964736c7c3132333435363738
and
dhcp-client-identifier “12345678@skydsl|12345678”,dhcp-class-identifier “7.16a4N_UNI|PCBAFAST2504Nv1.0”
646863702d636c69656e742d6964656e74696669657220201c313233343536373840736b7964736c7c3132333435363738201d2c646863702d636c6173732d6964656e74696669657220201c372e313661344e5f554e497c5043424146415354323530344e76312e30201d
Putting the HEX value in the DHCP client id e.g.
https://ibb.co/VTpXmgn
and
https://ibb.co/1b9sb0q
Finally got it working. I read on another forum that SKY can take upto 5 mins to recognise a different router.
I used a HASH of
12345678@skydsl|12345678
e.g.
313233343536373840736b7964736c7c3132333435363738
Waited 5 mins still didn't work, I then restarted the Amplifi and it kicked in!
Thanks for all your help everyone especially @Pheasant

We have had it confirmed by Sky that is 6 mins for a session to clear.

Wish I had known that a few days ago was driving me nuts!

Thanks for the update. Glad you got it going. 👍

Plusnet used to have a similar issue with dropped PPPoE sessions having to timeout before reconnection would work. Very annoying.
