Draytek Vigor 130, TP-Link Archer AX11000 & Sky

[link to this post]

Just bought the above to use on Sky and cannot even get it connected.

The Vigor appears to connect (in one part of the config, not in the other). I have set it to Bridged POE mode.

When setting up the Archer, it asks for time zone, and whether its static, dynamic, PPPOE etc. I autodetect, it selects PPPOE

The Sky username and password I have used is the one all over the net (abcdefgh@skydsl, 1234567890abcdef

It will not connect at all.

I bought this combo on the basis it was supoposed to be easy, but it seems I must haver missed a step?

Does the router support DHCP Option 61 (Client ID) as thats where you should be putting Username/Password

There's your issue. It won't work with auto detect on ANY router I'm aware of.
It isn't PPPoE. It's DHCP Option 61. Sky call it MER.

Your router doesn't support it.

If a router on Sky can be made to pull a DHCPv6 prefix down then IPv4 should also start working via DHCP, without any need for usernames/passwords or DHCP options.

I poked around the TP Link device emulator and this looks like it should work. Set your DrayTek modem back to defaults because you shouldn't need to touch anything on that.

Edit: The Sky employee confirming this works https://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Broadband/Third-party-r...

Thanks for the reply. It seems this is my last hope before returning the Archer.

I don’t quite understand from your post what I need to be doing though?

Whichever mode I set the Draytek to, on the web management page, for Physical connection, I get showtime, with up and down speeds etc. When I go to the main page of the Draytek it says disconnected.

Assuming the Archer is supposed to do the layer 3 connection, it doesn't appear to be doing it.

I tried to follow your instructions, but wasn't overly clear on what to do.

Not sure if this changes anything, but I’m on FTTC not FTTP.

It is a quirk of the Vigor modems, Draytek use the same UI as on their routers so the Dashboard always shows 'Disconnected' for the IP Address in the IPv4 Internet Access section. As long as Online Status > Physical Connection has SHOWTIME in the VDSL2 Information you should be good to go. If you have changed any settings it would be safest to do a factory reset.

Assuming the Archer is supposed to do the layer 3 connection, it doesn't appear to be doing it.

It should be, but from what you have described it has incorrectly autodetected PPPoE which will not work. For Sky the correct WAN connection type is IPoE with DHCP (terminology varies between vendors, TP-Link call this Dynamic IP) and has historically required DHCP option 61 which some vendors call MER.

The AX11000 does not appear to support this which may make it unusable with Sky. You could try enabling IPv6 with the 'Dynamic IP (SLAAC/DHCPv6)' connection type as successful IPv6 PD will permit IPv4 to work without having to provide option 61, as discussed in this https://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Archive/Using-3rd-Party...

The important bit is to have Prefix Delegation: Enable as shown in the image provided by @jpm

Ok so I gave up on the archer as it seems the general consensus is that it’s not great with Sky.

I took delivery of an ASU’s GT-AX11000 today.

It would not connect, so I flashed it with Metlin.

For Option 61, I use anything@skydsl|anything

And still it will not connect.

Any ideas? Would screenshots and logs help?
