You cannot move from max dsl to sky max there and then, it req exchange work you must have been on Mid package .

Stick the url into the browser and increase the snr and you should be stable same as ip profiling in the long run I can provide you with one if you want its the same result a lower sync speed but stable .

Whilst SRA was supposed to be a fix for this issue, its been reported to not be reliable and cause more problems. (Bulldog did some tests before launching). It could be that Sky tested the router with their DSLAMs before launch and found it worse.

The ISP is supposed to set quite a high target SNR margin, for my bulldog connection this is 10db, to allow for the fluctuations you see. This gives me 12mbit sync. I know my line is stable, with no day/night changes, so I locally force my speedtouch to 6 or 7db, giving me useful increase.

If Sky have the target SNR on your line set too low, then either you can try overriding your router locally (which I think you are). I'm not sure if the Sky Netgear remembers any local override after a reboot, which my speedtouch does. Of course you could also talk to support again - with the risks that carries!

Actually, this is wrong. Bulldog set the margin to 6dB by default.

Ok, guess the speedtouch is set for 10dB on ADSL2+ lines, perhaps Thompson trying to 'play it safe'. Or my line was adjusted, who knows

What happened was a great gnashing of teeth and howling from those who prefer to be wrapped in cotton-wool, which caused BD to re-appraise their policy and start setting a default of 8 or even 10. Great times ensued when it was discovered the the Belkin allowed the SNR margin to be reduced.

But I just wanted to point out that saying "the ISP should set a high margin" is something I disagree with

I know, I migrated to Sky Broadband Max but somehow the profile was set to ADSL1 not ADSL2+, took 9 days to speak to the correct person on a call back and in the meantime due to a misunderstanding they reduced the ADSL1 speed....

That is what I find too, when it stalled it reached 6.6 db.

Now I forced a higher margin the lowest I saw last night was 7.4 db, that leaves a reasonable margin so I should be stable now. It does look like Sky sets 6 db as the margin, which seems too low for the router they supply unless their are other factors at work here.

Question is when you sync does the DSLAM bear in mind your previous line stats ie. target SNR 7 db, current SNR 8.6 db, lowest last 24 hours 6.5 db therefore syncing at a speed suitable for the lowest 6.5 db?

Sky must surely be operating some sort of management on this, as I assume most lines have a SNR that lowers in the evening by varying amounts.

Luckily 14448 kbps vs 15323 kbps (15.32 Mbps v 14.45 Mbps) is not much of a speed drop for 24/7 stability, I could probably go a touch higher but with 14818 I was dropping to 7.1 db in the evening which is getting close to an unstable connection...
