No access to Email POP3 or WEBMAIL

Thanks Mr Saffron for your comments on that "authentication" thread. The thread was becoming difficult..
I'll start this one with a a copy of an email sent to BB support explaining my problem.
It might assist other readers.
I will not add to this post until I get an answer from talktalk BB support.
I will answer questions about my post.

Hello, thanks for the suggestions (see attached note). However I am still not getting a service on WEBMAIL or when using outlook express with the talktalk POP3 server.

Here is the error message I get from the POP3 server
There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your Password was rejected. Account: 'mail.talktalk.net', Server: 'mail.talktalk.net', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR Login failed.', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92

I also tried pop3.talktalk.net but that was just the same.

NB I have never been able to get in using a POP3 client., although the same clients can access other POP3 servers from NTL and Yahoo. The Talktalk Internet connection works.

Also I can not get in to WEBmail reliably Maybe 1 in 20 times a day. When I do get in I know therefore that the password is Ok and the account activated. I tried Webmail, webmall2 3 4 5 etc. They all behave in the same way.
Error message follows.
The server responded: -ERR Incorrect login or password incorrect. Check you have the correct username and password for the account. Server returned ( 0 NO Login failed. )

When I use *******l.co.uk as you suggested I got in ONCE yesterday and subsequent efforts fail as follows:

**** Sorry the Username or Password is incorrect ****

SMTP.talktalk.net works fine at sending messages from my mail client OE.

I really am at a loss what to do next. As you can see I'm using hotmail quite happily.

At this point I sent them my email accounts and passwords for them to have a go at signing on.

Contact the landline team ''during the day'' they will sort it out for you or at the last resort they will get support to contact you within 48 hours except ''Saturday Sunday'' ''They are very Helpful''

Landland support is good, shame about broadband support, even tho, u have to come across a good CS from landland or they just say its not their department.

Here is an update on my email problems.
Have not had a reply to my email or contact from Talktalk support BUT.........
1. Sometime after 15:00 on Friday 23rd , I found that I could reliably sign in and out of my WEBMAIL accounts. This is still the case today. For testing purposes, I have usually tried to sign on every hour through the day and evening since Friday afternoon.
2. An e-mail sent on Wednesday from one account to the other on one of the rare occasions I had been able to sign on was not being delivered by the servers. This has now turned into a permanent error after 3 days. However emails sent between webmail accounts since Friday afternoon are being delivered instantly.
Conclusion. Webmail service is now working well (for the last 3 days). This is the first time I have had a service since 16th June.
3. POP3 mail using Outlook express as a client still does not work at all.
I am hoping that Talktalk support did something on Friday to fix WEBMAIL but haven't quite got round to fixing POP3 service yet. I hope I'm right.
One thing you should know is that my system has not been changed in any way since 16th June.
Will let you know of developments when they take place.

An Update on 26/07.
Well still no answer from Customer support for 6 working days (counting Mon to Fridays only)
So I thought I would be brave and try again, based on the fact that WEBMAIL is now working fine all day every day.
I deleted all my email accounts on the web site., removed all talktalk programs provided on the on the CD, so that I could have a fresh start.
I loaded the Assist and Go CD
went through the route that says I will use my Broadband router instead of the modem.
Said that I wanted a new email address for Outlook Express
It gave me one which the program verified was OK and set up the account on Outlook Express. The mail server it gave me was pop3.talktalk.net.
This worked.
However if you check the connection using the CD software it says that I have a an invalid email server and will attempt to "fix" it to mail.talktalk.net. I ignored this step.
Note: the talktalk email set up support page also says that I should use "mail.talktalk.net" Just like the CD software.
So what is happening is that the Server that the installtion CD talks to at setup time , gives me POP3.talktalk.net to use as the mail server , but everything else wants me to use mail.talktalk.net.
Hmmmm. Well they both work anyway. Only the "Assist and Go" checking program thinks that POP3.talktalk.net will not work.
Never mind , this is the first time that I have not had my passwords rejected by the mail server.
I then reinstated 2 more email accounts on the WEB site and they suddenly started to work as POP3 accounts also.
I followed the same setup procedures today that i have used on numerous occasions before. Something changed somewhere last Friday.
It's a mystery.
Maybe the lesson of all this is. "If you leave it alone long enogh, it'll get better."
