I tried to move from plusnet to talktalk simply on the basis of saving some money, after years of excellent service from PN. I now realise that making haste decisions to save a few quid

Welcome to the world of the dissatified TalkTalk customers. You are in good company here! I just made the same move as you but in the opposite direction. Sadly TalkTalk can't cope with such momentous things as customers closing their accounts, so are continuing to bill me anyway. Plusnet has been like a breath of fresh air in comparison to TalkTalk, good communication, fast problem solving, friendly staff and a fully usable service.
I truly hope you get your problem with TalkTalk fixed, but if not, you will always find plenty of people here with whom to air your grievances. I suggest you try emailing Charles Dunstone at [email protected], it's the only way anything ever gets done at TalkTalk.

If you cancelled within 7 days of contacting them and ordering, then the distance selling regulations apply.
Otherwise its get some free advice from people like CAB
Since they had delivered nothing, then you should reasonably expect to be able to cancel easily, the lack of replies to enquires would suggest reason for cancelling is partially their own fault.
One question - had they switched your calls/line rental already?

They have switched me over to the new calls package, but since I was already part of onetel a subsidiary of talktalk I don't think this required a lot on their part and not one worth paying

Don't know why you would ever want to go back to PlusNet with their Ellacoya trraffic shaping switch. I hated it when they throttled my bandwidth.
TalkTalk Broadband 2MB soon to be 8MB
Ex-PlusNet 2MB (traffic shaping throttlers!)
Ex-Tesco 512kb
BT Voyager 2100 Wireless Router

My plan at the moment is to stay with PN and evaluate the situation better. I have been with PN for years and not being someone who is into games or P2P I have not had any issues with bandwidth and the service has been good.
However I do believe times are changing and PN is not moving with the times and providing its customer the best of deals, and unless the situation changes I will probably move, but not to talktalk, it is clear to me they are amateurs in this game and treat their customers with contempt.

TT don't have that particular type of switch which means theres a way round it if your savvy enough, though I won't explain it on here.
My torrent speeds are the same as plusnets around 210KB/s max download on a good seeded torrent, therefore unaffected.
