Assistance needed (No ADSL Signal)

[link to this post]

Can anyone help me. Two weeks ago my modem stopped receiving ADSL signal (Failed to open ADSL connection). I have tried my modem at my fathers house who also has TT and it works fine. I have tried the filters; cables the lot without any problems at my father house. When I plug in the same equipment at my house it doesn't work. I contacted TT 2nd line who have asked Opel to investigate and they have come back and said all is fine. Last night I spent two house on the phone with 2nd line and after some tests they said that there was interference on the line. I disconnected all telephone connections and plugged the modem straight into the master socket without success. They tried to downgrade to 512K with no success. Can anyone on this forum sggest any other tests I could perfom to progress this further ?

P.S. I have been online with TT for 6 months without problems with speeds upto 5.5mb

Borrow a router which is known to work elsewhare and see if you can get synch with that. If you can't, it is more than conclusive that it is the line at fault. I seriously doubt that TT can get their act together to sort it.

When providers say all is fine, one wonders what they mean, since with no ADSL signal you cannot be logged in, so all is NOT fine.

Sounds like time for TT to arrange an engineering visit to check things out.

Both myself and my father have wireless routers and both work at his house; but refuse to work on my line. I also have a wired router which doesn't work either. I am 99.9% sure the problem is TT. I just wanted to know what other tests I could perform myself to get TT to take it more seriously.

Ask for the cancellations dept which can have a surprising effect on fault rectification.

If you have no service they can't charge you for cancelling.

TalkTalk have agreed to send an engineer to the house as they cannot find the fault. If the fault is in the house I have to pay them otherwise they will find the fault and fix it

Will keep you posted; but seems fair so far.

No they didn't. They said they will pass it on to Opal and it's been a week without contact now.

Last night telephone line stopped working as well. I phoned second line and said that there was no point in staying with TalkTalk; first boadband doesn't work, then phone doesn't work and said I might as well cancel the contract. At that point he escalated the call to his manager (I assume) and surprise surprise; not only did I get my line sorted within half an hour; the broadband started this morning. I have recommended a number of people to join talktalk and would continue to do so as when it works its good; but aftersales support is non existant.

P.S. To get talktalk working; they said they changed my profile

Thanks for the advise. It worked. Last night my phoneline went dead; I telephoned 2nd line support from my mobile and told them that as the phone line & broadbnd wasn't working I might as well cancel my contract. Within half an hour my phone line was restored and this morning my broadband got sorted as well

Thanks for the advise; it's worked for me

Regards
