ASDL - Physical Up, Physical Down - Whats going on

[link to this post]

We purchased the wireless modem router off the carphone warehouse site. When i received it, i followed the instructions, and set up as should. Logged on and it recognised the wireless connection and said connected. When i opened up Internet Explorer - nothing. So I opened up the 'base station' and it said ASDL = Physical Down. By chance as i was ringing Talk Talk, and it connected all of a sudden. It has been like this all week, says physical down, then physical up, tnen sometimes it connects other times it doesn't, like today, this is the first time of connecting since trying all day.

I have just got off the phone for the 2nd time with the help desk, both times they changed my settings which resulted in everything crashing and having to re-install everything again. I have managed to connect now and found this site in a hope someone might be able to tell me what causes this ASDL status and what they think the problem might be?

I have really had enough now and had hoped that the inital problems i had with Talk Talk were behind me and now i could look forward to trouble free connection!

Thanks very much

SJB

Physical up/ physical down is basically sync being gained and lost. You'll notice the SYNC light (if its a phillips wireless) alternate between staying solid and flashing.

Plug it into the master socket (or test, if you have one) with no extension cables, nothing else on the line (no other phones/faxes/skyboxes), and swap filters.
Phone the helpline number on the box/instructions and let them know that, if its not solved by the above it could be external to your house, and TT will have to log a fault to BT/CarphoneNetworks (previously opal) to rectify if other measures dont work.
