A few questions

[link to this post]

I signed up for TalkTalk Broadband on the 30th April and have since gone live with no problems really, although I didn't receive a go live CD so I wasn't sure if I had actually changed over and there was nothing to sort of say we have connected you, I have been checking the online order system but it still says that my order has been accepted, it doesn't even say that my land line has been switched nor the broadband is live, even though it is though, I tried to login to the online billing but I just get some stupid error saying its broken so I have left that for now.

I have been doing some speed checks and I seem to be getting just under 2 Meg, I realise it says that they will get me as close to 8 Meg as possible but 2 meg is quite a bit away, I am near my local exchange, only a few miles if that away from it, but when doing an IP trace it seems to route up to Manchester, where as local friends seem to be around this area. Could this be why im getting so slow connection speeds or is it just the fact this is where the IP is assigned therefore it traces back there?

Also when I first joined the day after my go live date we had problems connecting, we could connect but it took pages like 5 minutes if not longer to load, was this the whole "training" period, I read other posts that sometimes they cap you at 2 Meg but I know friends around the area are able to go up to at least 4.5 Meg and thats what BT says that I can go up to 4.5 Meg with ADSLMax, at the moment my router is set to MMODE, should it be set to ADSL or ADSL2+ would this make a difference (I realise that MMODE tries to get the best connection atuomatically). Is it worth phoning TalkTalk and asking whats going on or should I just sit and wait for a few months to see if it improves?

I know I said a few questions :P but I thought it was better to ask all in one go.

Also just incase I have attached a speed test result that I got from thinkbroadband speed checker here: http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/results/id/11811468829383107745.html

My local exchange is LLU and I am connected to it as I tried to dial the number and got the number you have dial has not been recognised, also when doing speed test it comes up with Talk Talk and on speedtest.net as Opal Telecome, which I know to be Talk Talk so I guess that answer the whole am I actually connected issue :P.

Also I used to be with Orange, but I didn't do a speed test with them but I'm sure that there has been no real change in speed. (Main reason for changing was because my dad didn't want to pay for broadband seperatly, and phones already with talk talk so made sense, and despite what people have said we have had no real problems with the company at all, other than this who only getting 2 Meg thing).

Anything else just ask for it and I shall try and provide it, sorry for the long essay :P.

If you read other similar posts you will see that the first thing you need to do is provide your stats from your modem/router. This will help us help you. Start here http://newsnet.googlepages.com/maxdsldiagnostics

You are on LLU (if you can't connect dialling 1280 prefix).

You are getting a lot of noise or interference on your line which is affecting your speed.

If you have a master socket with a removeable bottom half faceplate, open it up and repeat the tests from the test socket inside. This will eliminate your own wiring. Post the results again.

If you don't have that type of master socket, remove all the ring wires everywhere and retest with nothing else plugged in except your router.

Hopefully we should be able to get your speed up to 5Megs but if the interference is coming from outside there is nothing that can be done.
