Can talktalk do this?

[link to this post]

Hi There,

I have been with Talktalk LLU for about six weeks now. Since moving my line speed has increased to 4mb down from a previous 2.5mb with a standard ADSL service. However, this speed increase has cost all forms of reliability on my ADSL line.

Is it possible for Talktalk to cap my connection to improve the stability of the line? Say at 2.5mb?

Tonight I've had the pleasure of speaking to a rather rude lady in support who's advised me that as I have a third party router Talktalk won't do a thing, as clearly my lovely router is at fault. From working in IT for the last four years I know enough to get an ADSL connection running and am disgusted with the attitude of their support. Perhaps this is standard practice for a free broadband supplier?

Anyway, apologies for the rant. I'd appreciate any information on this issue. If it doesn't improve I'll have to bite the

TT can set different target noise margins; however if you provide some info we might be able to assist you. What are your stats normally and from the test socket; attenuation, sync speed and noise margin?

TT ought to be able to increase the target noise margin to get some stability.

As for the router/support issue it's quite common and does make some sense. It's hard enough finding and training IT support staff as it is without requiring them to be experts with every make and model of router. Most ISPs take the sensible decision not to offer support unless the customer plugs a known make and model of router in. It can seem a bit harsh but with most IT support staff being spoon-fed scripts there's not a lot else you can do.

People with common sense and the intelligence to troubleshoot are rare, expensive to pay and have more sense than to join a helpdesk
