[link to this post]

ok,

i have the smartax roiuter.
when i connect to talktalk via ETHERNET; its great, no problem.

but when i connect using USB;
its never stable.
it synchs, and synchs, for hrs and the link light is flashing green.
then it connects, light goes bright orange.
then after 10 mins, it starts synching.
sometimes even for more than 5 hrs.

no extensions.
connected to main bt socket.
no sky boxes.
etc.

i went through their 2nd line supprt to no avail.

please help.

i need usb cos only my new pc is ethernet compatible.
all others laptops are usb cmpt only.

kind regards,

dont even ask.

they couldnt sort it.
i m lucky to even have the ethernet running after 2 months without it.
anayways its working noqw but not with usb.
i m staying away from their suggestins.
everytime they pass the case to opel and they take weeks and say the line is fine, which obviously it is now as ethernet is working.
or is it.
i had them chgeck it when i was connected via usb and they tried like 7 profiles and still couldnt get it synched.
thx

It sounds like it is more an issue with your USB port if ethernet is stable. USB connections are unreliable anyway.

Maybe the router requires UBS 2 and your port is 1.1 or maybe it is drawing too much power from the USB socket or not getting enough.

Your USB may also be set to go into sleep mode when not in use, it also could be that it is turned off via the BIOS on your system but unlikely if it eventually syncs - there is a multitude of possibilities here, but if it is stable with ethernet, it is most definitely a USB hardware problem and not a Talk Talk problem.

NOPE:

heres why.

its not a ubs hardware problem.

first of all i tried different pcs with 1.1, 2.0.

second, once i connect it with usb on eith laptop, or pc, it is not synching. Synching was a major issue with ethernet as well.
i had no connection via either usb or ethernet.

but not the ethernet is working.

but when connected via usb same synching issue.

also, i checked out some usb ethernet adapters on amazon.

do u knwow if that will solve the issue.

Go on to www.talktalkmembers.com and ask the admin to give you another router to try out. I'm betting the MT882 is goosed.
