TalkTalk down?

[link to this post]

My SO has lost voice and broadband in the W3 area of London, and I see several similar posts in the TalkTalk members forum from people around the country.

Can anyone shed any further light on this please?

Never mind... looks like a major outage over much of the south, being worked on.

Not just the south. My son's line in Norwich has been down all morning - nothing on the TT status board about this but plenty on the members forum.

I think "south" needs to be intepreted fairly broadly in this context- I've seen posts from Lowestoft to Aberdare

Seems to be coming back slowly.

billford,

There is a current outage which was caused by a power outage in the southern region. Engineers are on site and have restored power. Most customers should now have voice services restored with broadband coming back as systems come back online.

Single point failure and no backup power? Hmm.

I'm sure there are backup systems and all POPs are joined in a ring. As you say, services are coming back online and full restoration should be complete shortly.

There are/were 3 POP regions IIRC, South based from Brentford, Midlands from Birmingham and North based in Greater Manchester.

So a failure in the south would mean the southern half of England, not just what is known as the South!

Now back on line.

Voice back first then BB mid afternoon, but with an interesting twist. TT would not recognise my user name and password, gave a message to change my password back to the one I was given when I first joined, and call the freephone number (from my TT phone) if I have forgotten it.

As it happened I had the original letter and changed the password, no joy. Tried the TT number a couple of times (just in case), kept getting told there was an error. At around 7.30pm I got through. The password TT hold for me is not the password I have been setting up routers etc for the past 18 months. it was a very simple password TT tried when we were troubleshooting 2 years ago.

What on earth has happened?
