Faster TalkTalk Broadband

I've been with TalkTalk for a few years and currently have 8MB download/400k upload (get close'ish to both when I speedtest on a good day!).

I notice on their website you can now buy an add-on for faster broadband. Presumably its ADSL2? I'm in an ADSL2 area, so should be able to avail of it. But does anyone know what speeds TalkTalk support? In particular what upload speed they support? I travel a bit and use a SlingBox to watch TV, so getting a faster upload speed would be great. Otherwise, faster broadband is of little use to me!

If you're getting 8Megs now you should see an improvement up to 24megs is possible. However you need to be on TT LLU and with your existing upstream speed, you may be on BTw service which has 448kbps max upstream sync. TT max upstream is now 1024kbps whether on up to 8Megs or up to 24 Megs.

To get a more accurate prediction you need to post your attenuation.

If you were on TT LLU you should be able to get 14Mbps on ADSL2+. However as I said before I suspect you are not on LLU, but using the BT wholesale service for one reason or another. Are you paying �15 pm extra for your broadband? What exchange are you connected to?

It might be worth trying a speed boost then. It means a new 18 month contract.

Note the speedboost does NOT improve the upstream rate - all TalkTalk LLU users are apparently being switched to uncapped upstream, but the OP may need to get his profile tweaked to a new one - I used to have a problem with the very high upstream margin similar to above, and did not get the automatic upstream increase until profile changed.

I think that you will find that if you are on an existing contract and want to change to get the speed boost etc, that you will not need to sign up to a new contract until your existing one expires. You may need to change the package that you are on.

So if you have 6mths left on your contract you can get the speedboost etc amended to your existing contract and sign up to a new 18mth contract in 6mths time.

It will mean a new 18 month contract eventually as described in the following post.
