Moving to TalkTalk

I am moving to a new house next month. The house currently has a BT line. The line is capable of LLU unbundling.
I am not currently a customer of BT or Talk Talk.
My question is how do I go about joining Talk Talk via LLU without going to BT as I believe they have a 12 month contract which obviously I do not want.

Have spoken to TalkTalk and they confirm that I need a live BT account to join TalkTalk.
Does not seem fare that I need to join BT for a year, then join TalkTalk.

Sounds crazy to me - there may be a good (or contractual reason) but really doesn't make sense. Anyone else know more about this?

AIUI, TT can't be bothered to put in place the process to start a new line. This led to intending TT customers going to BT to get a line and immediately changing to TT. Hence all new BT customers are now stung with a 1 year contract to stop fickle customers taking the mick. TT still won't take on new customers and provide them with a line, but they seem to be happy to let people get their line from BT and make the move. However, they could be economical with telling the customers about the 12 month BT contract and the possibility of having to pay a penalty to BT.

TT have posted on their members forum that they will start supplying new lines for about £50 shortly. If you need a new line I would wait until the process starts.

You do, indeed, need to serve out the remainder of the BT contract (which, by all accounts, now appears to be a rolling 12 month contract), or pay an exit fee.
In the past, TT have suggested taking a BT new line, paying the exit fee, and migrating straight across to TT.
I just wish TT would stop sodding about, and actually offer new line installs.

New line installs by TalkTalk for £50

Starting today TT are doing new line installs for £49.99. You have to take the My Essentials broadband service which is full LLU (phone and broadband) and an 18 month contract. After the initial period of about a month the price will increase to £89.99 with a 24 month contract required. It will then be advertised on the TT website.

Note this service does NOT require an existing BT line and is a new service from TT. It will work in the same manner as the existing migrations do. Firstly customers will be connected to the BT Wholesale service for up to 28 days before being moved on to the TT LLU network.
