Saving email when changing ISP

[link to this post]

A friend of mine wants to move from Tiscali (Dial-up) to TT (Broadband) but is worried about losing her Tiscali mail.

What is the best way for her to proceed?

Any advise will be greately appreciated.

Is this the actual emails you're talking about or the email account? If it's the latter, the account will remain active.
I still have active LineOne accounts!

Hi Deadbeat and thanks for your reply.

She is concerned that if she changes her ISP she may no longer have a full access to her mail.
I, myself have never used an ISP's email so not at all sure how this works.

A couple of hours of googling produced various results: she may loose an access to her email on migrating while others say that, for a limited period, she will be able to read the mail but not send, etc.
I'm just wondering if there is an 'easy' but fail proof way of saving / transferring her emails.

What you read is true for some ISPs, but not Tiscali. They keep your email account for ever, even if you don't access it. I've had one for over 10 years (a lineone.co.uk) which I haven't looked at for ages; just tried today, it's still there albeit empty.

What she does is use Tiscali's POP3 (pop.tiscali.co.uk) to read her mail from her Tiscali a/c, but her own ISP's SMTP to send mail (within the same email client, e.g. OE, Account).

Do you mean her actual emails? Has she just left them on Tiscali's server? She shoulda downloaded them to her PC using POP3 and then she would always have them saved, now and forever.

You can just forward them to your new address.

I have 3 e-mail addresses from my dial up days, tiscali is one, OE checks them and pulls mail to one screen. Set up OE with the details they supply you with and any other address you use, but remember that when you send it is marked with your default address.
You are supposed to use your dial up account once every six months but only ever had one reminder in 8 years.
