TalkTalkl Faster??

[link to this post]

Hi i am posting this for a friend of mine we was just wondering if he should be getting a faster speed with these stats. I dont know too much about ADSL as ive had cable as long as ive had broadband. So dont know how to determine. Reason i ask is my aunt who lives about a street and half away from my friend gets about 13-14 meg on o2 but my friend on talktalk only seams to get around 5-6 both on adsl2+.

ADSL State Show Time
Data Path Fast
Operation Mode ADSL2+
Bandwidth Down/Up(kbps) 5957 / 1019
SNR Margin Down/Up(dB) 4.5 / 8.0
Attenuation Down/Up(dB) 42.0 / 23.6
Power Down/Up(dBm) 0.0 / 12.3
CRC Down/Up 2189 / 65465
FEC Down/Up 41569 / 0
HEC Down/Up 8179 / 0
System Up Time 7:16:40
DSL Up Time 2:13:05
PVC Select
PPP Up Time 0:44:07

Any Help much appreciated

With attenuation of 42, you should be looking for a throughput of just over 7. Do you know if there is an NTE5 telephone socket in the property. If there is remove the lower face plate and plug the router directly into the test socket, then try a speed test. If speed increases then there is a fault with the internal wiring.

the bell wire was removed and it did go up about 3/4 of a meg when you say it should get around 7meg it dose go to round the 7 mark some days and then goes back and up and so on so i suppose its just been typical adsl thanks again

Hi,

The speeds Sean has quoted would be on a 6dB profile with a perfect line. If your friend is not sure that the speeds they are getting are fast enough the best advise would be to register and post at www.talktalkmembers.com where we can take a look at the line stats and amend the connection profile if needed.

Cheers

I would expect he would get a Sync Speed (not throughput) of over 8 Meg. He's over 2 Meg shy.
