Customers encouraged not to use Anti-Virus Checkers

[link to this post]

Hi All,

One of my customers told me last night that TT said they did not need an Anti-Virus checker as this is built into the network.
  • This proves the rumour that TT are actively monitoring traffic.
  • It is VERY irresponsible to think that the only source of viruses is the internet. Do they not know about viruses which can be transferred by Memory Stick, CD etc.
  • What about email, are they decoding all the attachments to check them.
I have no way of knowing if what my customer has told me is true, but if it is then TT must be breaking some rules ??? Invasion of Privacy maybe ???

I promptly installed AVG Free on both of his machines.

Lots of iSP's where you use the firms SMTP servers have AV suites on them, so no major news there. How do you think ISP's quarantine spam.

Without having a transcript from both sides its hard to say if this was a mis-hear, or mis-understanding, or a rep giving out wrong information.

If there was no need for AV on TT, then why bother with their F-Secure package (£2 per month on essentials, free on other.

I agree 100% that AV scanning on mail servers is a good thing and not any news.

I also share your sentiments about not hearing the message 1st hand. As we all know these things can very easily turn into chinese whispers, especially when going from ISP staff quoting phrases parrot fasion through non technical customer to myself.

Toche with the £2 per month F-Secure option. Blows out of the water what my customer was told.
